Subject: Tau 7th edition codex! Don't get scammed!

The new Tau 7th edition codex looks almost identical to the old 6th edition. There are several people selling their old 6th edition codex and saying it is the 7th edition codex. The difference can be seen by the top section of the codex. In the 6th edition codex, the top portion is orange-ish in the background, while in the 7th edition codex, the top portion is light blue-ish.
Pictures supplied as an example.

Could you not look on the GW site? I'm sure they'd have a picture on the codex' cover there.
That said, that looks like 6th ed to me.

Looked on the site and it looks exactly the same. But somebody mentioned to me that the 7th edition has a blue background and the sixth edition has this orange background.

On the back cover it shows the copyright date. If it's 2015 it's 7th, if it's older, 2012 I believe, then it's 6th.

90% of the people trying to do this only show the front cover in the picture. (those who are selling online)

This is actually very useful. One thing I hate about buying online from various sources is that none of the codices state a specific edition visibly, so it's a real pain :/.
Those covers are very similar too :/.

I know, right! Its like they wanted to confuse others. In fact, I wouldn't doubt it. They probably did this so people would be encouraged to buy from an official GW store instead of online. Didn't even notice that you said this, sorry for not giving you credit! Thanks for posting.

That's a little too tinfoil hat for me, but I can understand that they just didn't want to higher an artist and just used photoshop for a few minutes to save on cost, without considering the negative effects on their patrons.

You know the company introduces more and more powerful models in every edition to make people either buy the new models or be horrendously under-powered? I wouldn't put trying to trick people into buying two codices past them.

They also buff older models, as in the OSC requires Stealth Suits and the Piranha Wing makes Piranhas better. This isn't a new thing, as most companies find ways to rotate product, and it does benefit tournaments because it keeps things fresh. That being said, GW doesn't really buff the very under represented models but usually goes for the middle ground ones that are already playable for some reason.
And yes, I think GW has terrible business practices and does some incredibly shady stuff, but trying to trick players with a cover, as opposed to just being lazy with it, is a bit extreme, even for them. Don't forget, that the cover issue makes it harder for people using Ebay (secondary market), so if anything it's more likely they're trying to make Ebay purchase more unreliable, as opposed to doubling down, but even then I doubt that really helps them much since someone being ripped off on a Codex is more likely to pirate it or quit, and the most likely place they'll be ripped off at is on an online secondary market retailer, than a GW store. This just means that GW gains nothing, the secondary market guy sells a codex they couldn't otherwise, and the pirate site gains revenue.

The people who are pulling this gak on Ebay do of course deserve scorn for being crooks, but on the other hand... god damn it GW. They couldn't even be bothered to change the fething cover? If you're not going to officially support the "X edition" moniker, then label your fething books so that they're easily distinguishable between editions. A color swap and some layout tweaking don't cut it.

At least they gave the campaign books new pictures.
And hey, this all can be avoided if we torrent the codices to protest GW
