Well... it's mostly that it's basically a requirement that Astartes recruits have to be younger in age, to reduce the chance that the organs reject the aspirant, so your entire chapter being former Guardsmen makes very little sense. Only a certain genetic code can accept the changes that makes one an Astartes, so just saying "my entire chapter is guardsmen!" is very, very, unlikely. Granted, the 40k universe allows for many things, but that isn't one of them. Plus, I highly doubt there is DE tech that would allow this (and I say this as a DE player)

Well, I've written up my intro, but it doesn't really state the punching power of the ships, is that necessary for the start, or something I can drop in later?

It's probably fine unless you start getting into naval combat. Maybe a general description of what the ship looks like (in case others want to include them in their fluff blurbs), but not saying their hitting power should be fine (it's a surprise for his enemies!). Check with Smudge though, just in case.

Just had this pointed out to me at my FLGS, and its the only thing I cant really answer. The idea is that the geneseed is mutated somewhat heavily compared to others because of the events that founded the chapter, so the geneseed never takes perfectly to begin with, for example causing them to be unable to wear termie armor because of thr large number of Polarization Matrixes they have. They use DE tech to help insert the geneseed safely, which cuts down on the accidents.

Astartes babies and guardsmen marines? I best call in the genetors because this sounds way better and more interesting than Xenos tech.

Well my intro is "hey, we found a thing, let's go look" and literally gives me 2-3 days to cone up with the next section including ship dimensions.
I'm just stuck for names.

The smallest ship is the Found Guinea, and the middle is the Lucky Farthing, so I guess my big shop should have a coin name too.
The Seneschal is Edward, and a few of the guard have names but I'm stuck for the Lord Captain. I suck at names,

That's how I ended up with a double-surname commissar in my fluff write up (Ramirez Yorke), I'd rather try and pick something myself. It's just tricky because I think of people who had that name and realise they're influencing the way I write.

Have you thought about trying to use something like Warhammer Fantasy for inspiration? To me Rogue Traders would have fanciful names, and things like the names of Empire Officials in Fantasy might fit that

Maybe a ship named after a sovereign, golden, or somthing like the impiral sovereign, golden sestertius, (Roman coin names go so well with 40k)
