I'm not used to writing for female characters. So I'm still trying to see what writing style works for me regarding them. I'm trying to improve

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes

The sovereign respect the position of the Emperor (hence them using 'Throne' as a cuss rather than 'God-Emperor'), but on the whole they are not zealots.
The average man of the Imperium is cowed by inexperience and fear of the Unknown. It just isn't the case when you're traveling around in a band of explorers.

The guard and Selka may be more devout.

Don't worry, the character I had in mind was none of those things, she's a lieutenant. To be honest I just thought I'd get bored writing about one character, I don't really know why I decided they were going to be female.

Also while we're on the subject of writing female characters, I really liked the part about Petra's maternal instinct when she had to defend herself whilst pregnant. It shows her being a strong character, but at the same time she's not just being badass for the sake of being badass, she's defending her family.

I'm not saying they can't, it never hurts to be a badass, I'm just saying I like it when a character can be sympathetic at the same time. The fact that Petra was in a vulnerable position at the time, and that she was fighting more in defense of her child than her own sake, makes her easier to like as a character because the desire to protect somebody else is a motive everyone can relate to.

To be fair I think Annala is pretty well written too. She's got her badass moments, but we still get to see her as a person and can sympathise with her emotionally.

I, on the other hand, am having some trouble with Mary Sue syndrome.

I default to writing perfectly reasonable, calm characters, and villains that concern me deeply. Not in this story, but when I write bad guys, I read it back and go, "Whatever I'm channeling there, I wish I wasn't."
I'm hoping to show the sort of conflicts a Captain goes through to stay in power, though.

A little bit about Nox and crew taking on some cultists.

I decided to put most of my named characters into this exert (Except Gadnuk's Gutrippas there's like 10 of those guys and it gets confusing if there are too many named guys in one little scene. which reminds me if anyone wants to learn more about those guy's back story you can see it here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/648404.page)

Back to my point heres a mostly complete list and short descrption of my named orks in WAAAGH WarpRida

Primary

Nox WarpRida Big Mek, Warboss, and founder of WAAAGH WarpRida

Gadnuk Eadwoppa Ork Kommando leader of the Gutrippas

Da Doof Ork Shaman and WAAAGH visionary

Secondary

Sarge-Git BoneBleeda "Bleeda for short" Gadnuk's second in command

Ronin, Blood Axe Stormboy Nob

Kaptin BloodTalon Ork Freebooter

Dok Krusha Nox's Chief pain boy
