In other news, progress is still being made. I'm halfway through the fleet action, where a few forces are knocked out there and then.

Acting-Captain Aurelius the modelTM, is now all glued together and painted, could post him in here if people want (actually seeing what the hell I see him as).

I basically need two posts worth of story and I'm done on Trisburg. The genestealer attack threw me for a loop, so I'll get on that shortly enough.

I'd say keeping guys in the dark before they even start isn't exactly conducive to a good player/GM relationship.

Is it so vital that the players can't know why they can't deploy a certain way, before they start?

Where have I said that I want CoF: v2 starting earlier at all? I'm not trying to rush that at all.

What I am having an issue with is that players (hint, not myself) are being railroaded without good reason before they've even begun. A basic explanation would be courteous to say the least? Again, interaction between players and GM is rather important in my experience, just keeping them informed about why something is happening, and giving as good a reason as possible.

TS, the issue you aren't telling anyone what is happening until players say "I've got a cool idea!" and then you tell them they can't do it. Or trickling random info then refusing to elaborate.

Or in other cases, expecting us to work around things we didn't know about.
I specifically asked for info (time) to plan around, and you guys randomly changed it. Had someone else not asked, would that have ever come up? Or would you have just dropped it in at launch (causing the issues that it would be well trodden ground to bring up again).

I'm still maintaining that a plot line that affects one person shouldn't dictate how at least four other forces (before you account for SM) have to cope with nearly thirty years. I demonstrated in CoF1 that folk can pop up outside their own timeline, but requiring it en masse is a mess.

So I guess some FAQ for the OP. I know you've covered some.

I have come up with a story element to explain that.

We only found the genestealer traces because I gave up and decided we would for quickness sake. Before that the only major successes resulted in greasy Marcus and weird trolling.

Its not about the kid, but who the kid is with and who the person is with in turn and why they are on the planet. If I drop anything more, it would give away a lot of the story.

Edit: I should also point out that if you want your characters from the current crusade to show up, I have devised a plan that fits with the story and the 27 year time difference.

I very much doubt unless that character is the second coming of the fething emperor, that it couldn't have just been handled using warp travel or plot devices.

The rest of us have to justify around this, rather than chazz changing one character?

So everyone returning has to be plot-deviced into the crusade? This is my point.

I'm not the only one bringing people back, and "there's plot" is terribly justification for screwing them all.

Not to mention I wrote the end of Trisburg to fit in with the information you already gave. Actually that's irrelevant, because it probably took less time than whatever else is happening.
