It's a power sword that is shaped like a Katana, it is also lighter and better.

Edit: After minutes and minutes of research, it seems katanas are lighter (although in some case, weight the same as a longsword), but a good 8-10 inches shorter.

And a lot sharper. Its a slicy-slicy weapon rather than a stabby stabby(Which I prefer).

Not a lot. But then again, cutting doesn't work agaisnt armor.

Not plate armor, no, you're not cutting through no matter the weapon, you'll have to stab to get results

Its true, the power field does the work, the weapon does very little, although I guess you can turn the field off and use the blade on non armored people.

Depending. Usually weak spots are under the arm, knee, and a very small jap between the neck and helmet. Katana hits any part listed above, that appendage is coming off. Power field or not.

Because if its agaisnt plate armor, not a chance in hell, a bevor and a sallet means you have to stab through the tiny visor, the armpits and knees are fully protected (from the front). Furthermore, you won't cut limbs in one easy slash. Bones and muscles get in the way.

Now with Space Marine strenght, things are different, obviously.

Old medieval armour btw, anything else is purely thoughts.

Have you seen Katanas do their thing? If it hits the exposed underside of a arm, it will come off. Doesn't matter who the person is(Barring super gene-hanced people). And generally, the armour inbetween the helmet and neck is only chainmail. It would prevent the through-and-through cut, but would still kill anybody it hit.

No, maille armor is ridiculously good agaisnt cutting weapons. Its part of why European swords went towards the way of stabbing (and being two handed)

I've seen katanas, yes, they're extremely overrated, probably on the same level as the longbow, its ridiculous.

We have very different views on weapons. Im not saying that mail armour is gak, Im just saying that being struck in the neck with a purely metal weapon rendered blunt by the mail will at least reck the windpipe. A strike to the elbow with chainmail would definately be less effective however, but as far as I've seen, the elbow is usually unprotected.

The maille prevents the blade from cutting and the padding underneath absords most of the blunt effect. The only advantage a katana would have over an arming sword (because longswords came out by the time maille was being largely replace by plate armor for those that could afford) is that it would be used with two hand, so you'd have more strenght behind the blow. Knights used piercing weapons or blunt weapons to kill eachother in armor.
