Ok, I have a stupid question, anyone have any idea about how many companies might be in an air-cav regiment? I'm trying to figure out how many names I need to come up with
Also, would there be enough Valkyries for all the men/women in the regiment if they all needed to deploy at once?

Most like plus a deadicated gunship close air support unit. Valks and such geared like a attack helo to lay down cover fire. Missiles plus heavy gun systems. All all in one assult brigade with air assult and close air support elaments to back a landing.
Large ernough, a full air asauly brigade could be of a fair size, veteran core with a new recruit section too like its established and rei forced.

There could be any number of companies, but I'd say there's probably less than average. You certainly don't need to say how many men there are - there can be as many as the plot requires, and it would certainly help you in creating the regiment. As for Valkyries, there would need to be reserve troopers, so probably not enough for all of them, but Valkyries can always go back and pick up more dudes if needed.

Maybe a first on or so elite companies. Veteran units that are the ones who land where the fire is hottest. ?
Veterans, hardened experienced units.
Also could be say the survivors of a earlier deployment and reinforced with new blood?

That would work out, even a bit on the small side in fact. How big are the companies - about three full platoons large?

Roughly. Are we going by the platoon organization in the Guard codex? That's all I have for source material. The rest of my books are about armored regiments.
So a platoon would be about:
1 PCS
6 Infantry Squads
2-3 Heavy Weapons Squads
Each company would have 3 of these, with maybe a special weapons squad added in here or there, with each company having a bunch of dedicated Valkyries/Vendettas on standby for transport.
About 5 companies in all, so 15ish platoons. Add in the Vulture/Vendetta squadrons and that's my army

Right, in which case, a platoon (including all personnel staffing and replacement men to reinforce) comes to about 100 men-ish.
That gives you about 1500 men in your whole regiment.
The Tanith 1st were a light infantry regiment that came to about 1500 at a low ebb on Monthax. I don't think your guys should be that low on 100% strength at all - doubling that size works a lot better, I think.

It took me two weeks to come up with that Bwatakwa discipline, give me a break with the rest of it.
|
H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

Ultramarine Master with Gauntlets of Macragge
What's left of Cadia

I'll consider it

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Speaking of Bwatakwa, I am making a homebrew Discipline for it. Lots of synergy.

Looking at the map I see 2BJ1's Orks aren't that far from my deployment zone. Methinks I'll be fighting some Orks soon.

I have no intentions of fighting him just yet. I just have a feeling that he'll be the one I get into a tussle with.
Hopefully he's a fool and doesn't think to bring Mek Gunz
