At Helsarch the Black Templar's apothecary was openly weeping over his dead brothers to the point that Grimaldus had to tell him to put his helmet on so the humans wouldn't see.

There are several fluff examples of it. Makes sense, deep down marines are still people and have feelings even if they suppress much of it in the name of duty.

Weeping and shedding tears may not seem manly for some, but it is a rather telling sign that one is a human.
For specifics, tearducts serve practical biological functions and the Space Marines' genetic enhancements don't seem to address this. I'd say that they can. We already have lore and canon/ non-canon describing them as crying already, so I don't see why not.

We also have examples of Khorne bezerkers shedding tears during Fits of rage, so functionally they work.

A lone space marine of the Deathwatch stands on a hill overlooking the funeral pyre of the inquisitor he once served.
As her body burns the stormtrooper cries beside the imperial priest. "Why do you cry?" The priest asks with a scowl.
The stormtrooper wipes a hand down his face and points to the marine, "He is Astartes, he cannot cry... so I cry for him!"

Functioning tear ducts, yes. Crying, probably not. Functioning tear ducts are needed to keep the eyes moist so they function properly.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Yes they can.
To see it you put a half brick in a sock and hit 'em 'inna fork.
Then you run away laughing.
(But seriously, they have to be physically able to as human eyes have to keep wet to work)

Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
I... actually don't know. Help?
|
I cam imagine an Astartes crying when euthanizing their brothers, especially the Apothecaries if they see a severely wounded brother that won't live to see the sunset. In more humane chapters, like Salamanders, I could imagine them crying when seeing civilians killed, or when calling exterminatus on a Hive planet. I'd love to read a story about something like that.

Pretty sure there was some crying in the sallymanders novels when a chapter master died.
Also evidence of PTSD in some of the marines that were close to his deathr.
Also Leman Russ and Lion'el were stupid blubbering messes after the death of the Emparar.
If the primarchs can do it, why can't their kiddos?

If they don't, their eyes would dry out, become infected, be unable to clean out dirt/grime, etc. Tears/liquid forms a key basis for the correct function of your eyes

Lets not forget that even the Emperor on golden throne still shed tears for the fallen heroes of the Imperium. It I remember correctly his tear are collected by the Custudes as the a defense against the warp.

Sevatar, not Curze. Curze is in a coma at this point.
The full passage (from Prince of Crows) is this:
Even seeing his gene-father in the apothecarion didn't move him to sorrow. He wasn't sure why. And yet he could hear seasoned warriors - murderers and flayers and torturers all - praying and weeping across the Legion's mass-relay vox-network. The Luna Wolves had sounded the same, when Horus was wounded. Sevatar hadn't understood it then, and he didn't understand it now. The easy expression of emotion was just something that happened to other people.
So yes, Astartes can cry.

And the Angels of Darkness descended on pinions of fire and light... the great and terrible dark angels.
He was not the golden lord. The Emperor will carry us to the stars, but never beyond them. My dreams will be lies, if a golden lord does not rise.
I look to the stars now, with the old scrolls burning runes across my memory. And I see my own hands as I write these words. Erebus and Kor Phaeron speak the truth.
My hands. They, too, are golden. |

If anything wouldn't they have enhanced, high-capacity tear ducts in order to speed the flushing of chemical agents from the eyes?
