What Space Marine faction have you found to be the best, or have the best options, in close combat? I've been thinking about adding another faction to my army, which is currently all Ultramarines. Right now I am leaning towards Grey Knights.

I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you

Probably space wolves. Thundwrwolf cavelry is one of the best cc units.

It depends. Space Wolves have the Thunderwolf cavalery, a great deathstar. Blood Angels have the Death Company and the Sanguinary Guard. But overall I'd say Space Wolves.

It depends what you want to do in close combat. Grey Knights can be good to take out multi-wound creatures because of force, however, if you're looking for units to just take on infantry in cc then space wolves can be good. Hammerhand can also help on big things like deamon princes. So yeah, who are you mainly up against and why do you want to include a cc heavy faction.

Competitively, space wolves. If you count Daemonkin as a space marine faction they're basically tied. Then I'd say white scars with biker Librarius using the new WS formation detachment. Then GK with loads of Dreadknights.

DA ravenwing black knights is also quite good.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

BA CC capability doesn't exist next to the incredible cheese of TWC, or even black knights.

TWC have 2 wounds, T5, can take thunder hammers and storm shields, and move as Cavalry. Very few things can cheese combat like they do. If they can hit Flyers then you literally don't need anything else.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

They can ignore flyers because most flyers in the game are useless garbage.

Almost forgot. If you take the FoC from Champions of Fenris, not only can you field a pure TWC army (by taking Iron Priests on Thunder Wolves as your compulsories) but they also get +1 WS, making them on par (if not stronger) than most secondary commanders.

As a single unit, TWC are the best. Mobility, toughness, wounds, number of attacks, base strength, equipment options; the list goes on. The Blood Angels have some solid units (Death Company and Sanguinary Guard) with solid equipment options and good supporting ICs with built in Furious Charge, but Grey Knight Terminators will still mulch MEQs and less any day, they just have only one storm shield across the chapter and lose out to other TEQs. Dreadknights are great but squishy, a 5++ goes to a 4++ with Sanctuary, but TWCs with a couple shields/hammers/fists will just mulch the Dreadknight.
