There is also a relic which increases the ion shield. Bonus points for using it on a Lancer...

That's not how Sanctuary works. Sanctuary grants a 6+ to the facings not covered by the Ion Shield. There is a debate, however, as to whether or not Sanctuary adds a second Ion Shield (and if so, what rules govern it).

Knights to me reemphasizes that you need mobile anti tank in your army. I've had success against knights with land speeders and attack bikes because i can zoom around the shield and hit them from a less armored side. That combined with static anti armor such as a pred or grav cents creates a bad choice for the knight as it has to pick a facing for the shield. To quote sergeant Johnson, there tough but not invincible.

In all fairness, most people agree that Sanctuary is a second piece of wargear that counts as an Ion Shield... you know... cause it's a second piece of wargear and says it counts as an Ion Shield. So, a Knight Titan with the Sanctuary Relic AND an Ion Shield gets two facings at 4++ and 6++ on the other two facings. There definitely is a debate, but it tends to be a vocal minority arguing that only half the rules for Sanctuary be used for... reasons?... that I've never fully understood.

But this isn't the thread for that topic. We've already gone down that path with the vocal minority refusing to back down, but most others agreeing that Sanctuary is not an upgrade to the Knight's Ion Shield, but an extra "counts-as" Ion Shield.

The new knight codex gave them a ton of stuff like 3 new knight variants, ObSec on their detachments, a bunch of formations, gun options for their carapace, a better warlord chart, and relics.

Other then losing the option to roll for their knight household (which was what giving them the bs5 and 3++ ion shield) they still have the same options as before, they just added a ton of stuff.

Just to clarify, he can potentially get a Knight with a better invuln, WS, and BS. But it all involves running a formation of knights(at least 3 for the Baronial Court).

This is what I meant, I just worded it poorly. Either way it is still something really nice to have on a Lancer with it's particular role. And if you have a Lancer he is probably your warlord. Lancers are quite juicy in an Exalted Court. Hate having to take all those Gallants, but it can be fun if not effective. Bonus points if you hurl land raiders at other land raiders. Not the greatest as far as effectiveness goes, but it is darn fun.
