Hey guys, ive got some Hat Phalangites coming, as looking to build a 25mm army to play against a pal.

They dont come with the Sarrissa's, i've heard broom strands are good to use, but they sound a little flimsy.

Can anyone provide good alternatives and preferably where to pick them up in the UK?

Thanks

Brass rod from model supply stores is a pretty versitile source for spears.

down south

I recently got a couple boxes of these phalangites. I used plastic rod from evergreen. It was kinda of a Pita to get some of the poses to hold the pikes correctly. Ended up drilling holes in a few to take there weapons. I sharpened a point on the ends with my exacto knife then squished them down with small pliers to make a spearhead.

Plastic rod also works, but is fragile. Brass rod will not break/bend as easily. You can apparently hammer the ends flat, though I have not tried.

Alternatively try:

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Box of thick paperclips and a good pair of pliers to straighten them out.

More spear shafts than you can shake a stick at and pretty resistant to bending/metal fatigue.

Thanks guys. Guess im worried about the heaviness that any metal may have on bendy hat plastic figures. Guess that isnt an issue?

Thin brass rod is pretty light. I am not overly familiar with HaT plastics, but they would have to be extremely thin to not be able to support some thin brass rod.

I round my ends with a piece of sandpaper or a grinding wheel on my dremel tool. Then paint the end silver and it looks fine on the table.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Plastic broom bristles, or piano wire.

Broom bristles can't be flimsy or they wouldn't be any use for sweeping. You can flatten the end a bit with a hot knife blade to represent the blade.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...
