Ah cool,a lot less pressure now. Though, I still want to get them looking somewhere near decent.
James do you use a booth for your airbrush? How do you contain the spray? Was considering gettin one for priming/basecoating. I figured it would be a but more consistent and wieldly than the spray can.

I have a French door in the room I paint in, which I keep open. I wear a mask and put newspaper down where I'm spraying, but other than that I just go for it. It's only a small cone so doesn't go everywhere. When it comes to airbrushing though, you'd be better off asking buttery, much more knowledgeable than me, and has helped me out in the past with a few queries. I even bought my last brush on bc's recommendation.

That's the problem. I dont really have anywhere with decent ventilation. Though I could probably wing it with a mask and cardboard box in the kitchen with the back door open. Which just isn't an option with the aerosol as it just goes everywhere!

Just a room with a window is enough. You have a lot of control with an airbrush, just make sure you get a decent mask.

Short term, by or on a windowsill in a cut out shoebox is okay.
Kitchen is fine as long as you take up any water you leave out for pets, and cover any fish tanks with a towel during and an hour afterwards.
It does leave a small film of coloured dust around the room after a couple of uses. If you were to paint an entire army in a weekend, you could wipe surfaces and find it.
Long term, a £50 extractor booth with a turntable from Amazon is worth it, but I'll admit I don't have one. I do however, clean my house myself. If an other half cleans the glassware and dishes you may find yourself on the short end of it after a few months.
The other benefit of the extractor is that it draws the paint past the model. Arguable better control of flow.
James is bang on about the mask. Dust masks work well, but I got myself "3M 7500 Spray Paint /Dust Mask Vapour Particulate Reusable respirator" - should be no more than £15 and you forget you're wearing it. I have lung damage, so I was overly cautious.

Thanks for the advice buttery . I have no pets or other halves to worry about so the short term solution might be handy. But Im surprised at the booth bein so cheap. The 3M stuff are usually pretty good, Ive used similar ones in the past at work. Over cautious is usually best at the least itll save you some discomfort.
Any advice on a beginner air brush and conpressor?

Shop around for this setup (compressor, tank, water trap, regulator and hoses), and then post what you'd like to get as an end result on Painting And Modelling on Dakka.
The brushes that come with are generally around the level of a controllable spray can, but the rest is solid and what you'll get in the UK without going silent/petrol.
I went with an Iwata HP- CS and its roughly bulletproof. But it depends what you want out of it.

@AEIOU nah it's a resin cast. I try to avoid metal models where possible.

Ah ok, like buttery said how come?
Saying that I was never a fan of the lead ones over the plastic. But I've never worked with the resin ones, all I've heard is bad things to be honest.
Also I had no idea Crimson Fists had characters. Although if I ever started a marine army it'd be Dark Angels, Imperial fists or crimson fists.

Cheers Buttery.
Four reasons I'm not a fan of metal; paint chipping off, flattened detail if they get dropped, trying to pin fiddly bits, and heavy armies. I did my time carting around 4kg army cases. I've still got plenty, just try to avoid if possible.
FW resin if fine to work with, citadel is a pain. He has a few air bubbles and supports I forgot to remove, but I can live with it for the occasional model.

Yeah, it's a sod for chipping. I've only really found that my figures don't chip since starting to use two new primers - Halfords grey, and Vallejo airbrush.
Hearing you on weight, I usually carry 250 metal IG at a time due to only owning one case. The handle is like razor wire after walking from the Broadmarsh to the station. :(
Working with it though, I love metal. Something about it being much slower work, it's harder to instantly feth it up with a blade.

I think that's a part of why I don't like it, I used to do a lot of converting back in 2nd-3rd ed times (as in every model, lots of free time at 17 yrs old). Trying to hack through metal models was a nightmare, literal blood, sweat and tears all in vast quantities.
I don't envy you that ball-ache BC!

Yeah, I did my time pre-white metal when I was a young pup.
Now my metal Sisters drive me mad. The Exorcist is the wurst. The absolute currywurst. Never again. I'd buy three Penitent Engines but metal walkers? No, thank you.

I miss my sisters army. Actually that's not true, I miss the militia and preacher models.
Just noticed that the immolator has gone from the gw site. Wonder what that might herald?

Nowt. Just like the Repressor going. It's why I've halted at 1000pts.
Phil Kelly said if he could do one thing it'd be an Eldar vs Sisters campaign. Maybe one day...

After every other campaign opportunity has been exhausted (including a few civil wars)...
I was more thinking along the lines of heralding the end of the army

I'll have an open return so happy to do whatever. Might not drink as I've been clean for a good four weeks now.
Train gets me in for 09:27. Will get the tram over (will figure it out), and get some breakfast at Bugman's first.

James, if you're there first thing, do us a favor please, and make sure they have actually reserved the table?
Last week was a hoot laugh, nobody put the sign up for my friend (that had been booked since this topic was made), so we got there and couldn't play.
Never happened before, I was wondering if the new scenic addition bumped older bookings off.
