Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
so if you guys read the general discussion lately you might have realized that there was a discussion about which army i should build, and AM came out on top which is actually amazing since i will be going to the military soon and in specific the air force which is great.
now enough of that i need some serious help, i looked at the AM codex and realized that the vendetta and valkyrie are good for anti tank and mc, but its piss poor for horde abilities so what should i do?
i am defiantly going to take a vulture from forgeworld and some vets with plasma and flamers but thats all that i have

Take the new triple Valkyrie/Vendetta formation.
Now you can run a 5-man squad of some sort (CCS, PCS, Stormtroopers etc) or a 10 man (usually vets) in a Valkyrie.
You gotta have something on the ground preferably something you can put out of line of sight like a Wyvern which is excellent crowd control. Id run two Wyverns and maybe a barebones ccs just for the MOF for reserve rolls.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Have a look at Imperial Armour Vol.1 2nd Edition. You'll find the Vulture, the Imperial AH-64. If you want antihorde, you'll might like its twin linked Punisher cannon issuing 20 S5 AP- at BS4 against ground targets+ 1 HB shots. (I keep talking about it, but it is great !)
Only 155pts for it. And there are plenty other configurations.

Buy this book

Drink opponents tears.
Between the Vulture Gunship (Twin linked punisher cannon) and the Avenger Strike Fighter (Avenger bolt cannon), you have more airborn anti infantry that other armies dream about.
The Thunderbolt has the option to take 4 helfury missiles, which are ignore cover, S4ap5 large blast.
Man, I really wish Renegades and Heretics could get these!

Look at Imperial Armour Volume #3 2nd Edition the Elysian Drop Troops army list can run an army completely mounted in Valkyries who basically have the Drop Pod Assault rule.

When you say "airborne," do you mean a traditional IG army with a lot of flyers or an IG army of nothing but infantry mounted in flyers? The rules make both possible, but a true airmobile IG force has a lot of disadvantages in the game. Not to mention that it's a very expensive project.

If you're just starting you might want to avoid Forge World.
The models are finiky to put together often with warped parts or fragile bits of resin and not everyone will let you use them in normal games.
And the books and models are even more shockingly expensive than GW.
(there are literally 100 page threads debating if FW is 'legal and official' or not)
Start with some Valkyries and Vendettas (though you have to either convert or order FW bits for Vendettas) and go from there.
Maybe a Vet squad or two with stealth to start on the field, plus some indirect artillery.

Personally your better off avoiding players like this, especially nowadays.

All I have to say, is go all Airborne! I was Airborne Infantry in the army before I retired (best damn job in the planet haha) , so a whole bunch of guys jumping out of planes always bring a smile to my face. Just do it, play whatever you want and have fun with it. I always built armies that had a story to them, were fun to play, and most importantly, looked go TO ME on the table. With clever play, some good dice rolls, and non-turd opponents, most list can be a blast.
And, you will be surprised just how many gamers are in the military. Once you get to your duty station, get your army sent to you, don't be a closet nerd and you will find guys crawling out of the wood work to play against.

Airborne Infantry is great but I personally think that militarum tempestus suits the idea better. If it weren't a difficult army to use right I'd suggest that first.
Anyways for hordes Valkyries aren't that bad with their multiple rocket pods. Better than your C-130 would be But you could always go triple flamer veteran squads, or 4 flamer CCS/ PCS's. You really can't play full airborne though, as you have to have models on the table for the first turn- any game turn that ends with none of your guys on the table is an automatic loss- so you're going to need to grab some "pathfinder" guys. Probably in the form of a veteran squad or two or maybe some ratlings or sentinel types.
Other than that have fun with it. I'm not very familiar with Air Force duty stations but every Army base I've been on has had a game store within a few miles of it so games shouldn't be too hard to come across.
