Thus far Cadia, White Scars, Raven Guard & Flesh tearers.

Appears to be the rules, datasheets etc etc from the various campaign books.

A sensible idea !

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Suppose it beats paying for a supplement you don't want! Now they just need to do it for the other AM types like Mordia etc. Traitor Astartes too!!

It's stuff that they already released in the supplement books. You're basically saying "Oh look. Options. Great."

Yeah, gw has do e some silly stuff but separating out giant supplement info for specific armies isn't one of them.

Really wish they'd put these up as a "print on demand" option that you can buy a physical copy of.

It's only great if you have fore-knowledge that this is going to occur. With the Flesh Tearer stuff, for example, when the supplements featuring things like the formation and relics came out, there was no indication that you'd ever be able to get this information/material elsewhere.

Cue a certain number of customers buying these over-priced campaign books because they really want the FT stuff.

Fast forward many months and you can now buy just the stuff you wanted on its own.

Don't know about you, but I'd be quite aggrieved about that. If it was made clear that the supplement material would be available separately at a later date I'd be able to plan my purchasing and not buy something I didn't want/need. At best it's inconsiderate, at worst it's actively duping people into buying products they've no need/desire to.

It's the same issue I have with the gamer edition codices that were released recently. Would have been welcome at the initial release ( or the very least the knowledge that they'd be coming in the future), but, after the initial release period, people have already purchased a full price codex under the assumption nothing better/more cost effective/whatever would be on the way.

People get into the armies after the supplements come out. Just because someone that bought Exterminatus is bummed doesn't mean this is a bad idea for the guy who starts Blood Angels tomorrow. So people wasted money in 40k... It's an expensive hobby that boils down to fancy army men toys.

We're all wasting our money here but just because we did doesn't mean it's bad for them to come out with an option for Little Timmy to save money tomorrow. Or would you prefer that he also has to buy the big and often limited edition campaign books because he got into the hobby a few months late?

I'm all for these cheaper options. Takes some of the exclusivity out of the game. No reason why I have the Fighter Ace rule just because I bought the Supplement that happened to contain it and other poor schmucks that don't play Nids don't even know it exists and can help their army. If they want to release a $2 PDF page that includes those smaller rules too, I hope they do.

As stated, I don't have a problem with this material being made available - absolutely, everyone should have an opportunity to access it - but it should be made clear from the initial release of the campaign books that this would be the case.

We've seen a similar thing with the Captain Karlaen model recently. The campaign boxed sets have all come with unique character figures that were presented as limited models. People will have bought the boxes because of these figures, or the figure will have been enough ti persuade them they need the extra Genestealers, Death Company or whatever else, on the basis that they'll not be able to get their hands on it any other way. Now Karlaen is on general release many months later.

If this kind of delayed parsing out of parts of previous releases is stated clearly at the time of the initial release, then I have no problem with it since it gives the consumer a genuine choice of do I want the whole campaign book (for example) or just the bits that pertain to my interests? That's honest and doesn't run the risk of aggravating paying customers, which is something I'd have thought a business would be in favour of. However, this is GW.

Just so you know, the campaign box models have never been presented as "limited edition models".

Their wording was very clear that the models were currently only available in those boxed sets.

Sure, it'd probably be better if they'd done this from the beginning. As with anything though, if you're buying it for a reason other than that you want it and are happy paying for it you're playing a losing game. I bought Exterminatus in hard back and I'm happy with it because it's a lovely book full of cool stuff. Now, I am happy for people who didn't want the big book that they can now just buy the flesh tearers stuff. Good for them.

See, its a fine line you walk with GW. Stuff can disappear without any notice or for no apparent reason (to us) - so you better buy it while you can. On the other hand, stuff will re-appear in different formats or just plain reappear - so you can wait. But you can't wait, cause it might not... And I think GW wants its customers reacting this way, and defaulting to just buying it when it first comes out, because you never know.

I didn't notice in the blurb on the Flesh Tearers supplement that its the same material from the Shield of Baal supplement. They should probably mention it so there is no confusion for those of us who already bought it once.

Truth be told, I like the hardback supplements rather than the e-files for my rules anyway...

We're going to disagree on that. They were touted as limited edition high and low. The weasel wording was that the BOX was limited edition (they won't be making any more boxed deals once they're sold out) but not the figures in the box. That was never ever pointed out. Period.

Moving on.

I don't know why they have a Flesh Tearers supplement. Did they specifically take FT out of the BA codex?

The wording on every single one of the box product descriptions disagrees with you.

No. They got a supplement in the second Leviathan book.

When you go to your local GW store, and the GW person behind the counter tells you it's a limited edition box, then that's how it's fething marketed- as limited edition. Considering they don't have the box for you to actually read at the time doesn't help matters. When I get the box in my hands, I think "oh I have a limited edition item" because that's what the company told me, and I don't go scouring over it to see if it was a lie. I guess I have to now.

I am curious if the Flesh Tearers supplement is JUST the three FT formations and the Flesh Tearers Strike Force. That would be a colossal rip off if it was, considering that Exterminatus is $35, but comes with all of the BA stuff and Necron stuff, as well as the copious amounts of fluff.

The more I think about these things, I wonder why the Blood Angels, Tyranids, and Necrons did not get their stuff from Exterminatus and Leviathan released in this fashion. The Flesh Tearers did. The Cadian one includes rules from several sources, including Red Waagh and Mont'ka. Couldn't they have released the Leviathan stuff for Tyranids and Exterminatus stuff for Necrons? If not for the Necron omission, I would be tempted to think that this may point toward new codexes for Tyranids and Blood Angels. Tyranids would include updated versions of the Exterminatus formations, and Blood Angels would have updated versions of their formations from Exterminatus. Both would have their own super formations. Space Wolves are probably getting their new codex in February and it will probably be swimming with formations.

I dunno, I just find the omission kinda weird.
