Subject: Wargaming Dog Tags - Event tokens and army tags

Hey guys,
A few people have contacted me and asked that I come along and share my Kickstarter with the Dakka Dakka communities as it might appeal to a good number of you, I apologise if you have already seen this in one of the other forums:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/aus30k/aus30k-army-dog-tags
The project is to produce US style Dog Tags for event tokens and player sets which have laser etched images on the tags as well as embossed text (not engraved). The tags can be used as event tokens for campaigns or tournaments with an image laser etched into one of the faces and then the event name and additional text embossed onto the tag. They can also be used as player/army tag sets with the players preferred army logos on them and their army description or contact details embossed onto them so that they can be attached to your army case as a form of identification.
The event tags are designed to be unique yet affordable for Tournament Organisers to purchase and comprise of a single tag with an image and the same text embossed on each tag for AU$5 per token
The army tags sets are more geared towards individual purchase by the players, they have two chains (27" + 5.5") along with two tags, each tag can have a different image etched onto and likewise can have different text embossed (up to 15 characters on up to five lines), these are available for AU$15 early bird, additional tags can be purchased for AU$7.50 for those people who have multiple armies.
These can be used for basically anything but the project was initially geared towards wargamers who are involved in games like 30K/ 40K, Bolt Action, Flames of War, Team Yankee etc.
I am happy to assist with combined postage and am also happy to add more images to the library if you have something which isnt there already, please just flick me a message!
Cheers
Dono

In a similar way that most of the producers of custom templates work with images; people think that every image in the a game systems universe automatically falls under a companies domain which actually isn't the case, especially when a lot of those images are already taken directly from existing uses of those images (Roman Iconography, Greek Letter, Medieval Heraldry etc). The primary infringements occurs when people attempt to use the registered/copyrighted names and terms. While some companies have been pretty heavy handed with C&D issuance's many years ago, in recent years those companies have often only acted where there has been a direct threat against their IP and lack of action would have resulted in their ownership of such IP being lost or challenged.

Yeah I e watched the chapterhouse vs GW lawsuit, even though they gave GW a black eye, they still lost a lot. He only survived due to free legal counsel. Plus he also created a bunch of his own designs which GW didn't like, or adjusted their images some. Yours are almost a direct copy paste of all the legion images.
But I'm no lawyer, so do what you like. Just know GW has done dog tags before with the chapter emblems and alien faces on them, as event promos no less.

Your imagery seems too similar to GW. You may argue that they are taken directly from roman iconography etc etc, but good luck explaining why every single one of your icons reflect GW faction icons, especially the eldar and tau.

There are certainly contingencies in place if I am forced to not use certain images, and if the people who wanted those images are no longer happy with the alternatives, then they are capable of cancelling the pledge (the beauty of Kickstarter).
Thanks for the warning and the advise though guys

I don't really have much faith in this being a smooth ride for you but am interested for a non-GW Dog Tag perspective.
Would you consider possibly having some non-copywritten images in your examples and then be very clear about offering to use simple images that are supplied from your contributors for your laser etching? Keeps the C&Ds out of the picture in those difficult cases.
A lot more eloquent in the video than I was expecting. Good work! Must advise that the sound cuts out at the end so you don't get to hear the example you give.
If this goes to end I wouldn't doubt to see myself doing some for my local Infinity Group for a spiffy campaign run or something like that.

Thanks for the feedback, also appreciate the advice, I will edit the project text this evening when I get home and I will look into the video issue, I have been having problems with the file corrupting when it uploads to the site.
If you have the images, please flick them through and I will add them to the library for you otherwise if you let me know what you are looking for I can draft them up as a vector and go from there.

Sorry I don't have anything just yet, only started thinking about this when I read it here this morning, but my Infinity group has 10+ peeps in it and I would like to think a spiffy set of dog tags would look nice as a celebration of a campaign event or something. And there are a whole bunch of Vectored art work for that game already so that should be easy. I have put out feelers already and I will hit you up after I get some responses from my group and if they are interested.
I have done some similar stuff to this in my Bloodbowl Tournaments (the Laser etched dog tag thing specifically) but you are definitely kicking it up a notch with getting your own equipment.
I am really happy to see the Aussie Initiatives really getting there.
Send me a PM if you want to talk out any ideas.

As the proud owner of two of the Bulldog Buckle GW dogtags this is soo up my street, I can think of a bunch of tags I'd love to get made:
- Death Guard
- Infinity Aleph
- Dropzone Commander Scourge
- Warmachine Cryx
- campaign set of Inquisition ones for the Inquisitor Grand Tournament...

We have crossed over the half way point and then some, with quite a few club pledges still to come in, the machine is currently en route from the supplier and there is an initial batch of tags for samples getting laser etched this morning. The full batch of tags (over a thousand now) is due to arrive at the laser etcher early Feb.
If you are after some tags, now is the time to jump on the kickstarter!
Event tags and Campaign pledges are still available as well.

Last few days of the project, the machine and tags arrived last night and the calibration completed. Hopefully sending the first batch of tags off to get etched this weekend for the event tag and then the second batch will be done once all of the surveys are back for the custom images

Cool idea. Would love some Word Bearer tags with some text from the Book of Lorgar on em.
Hoping you hit your total. Any chance of still getting the silencers if the stretch goal doesn't happen?
