C-3PO is getting an alternate art card in the store championship tournament packs, so he's about to become a lot easier to get.

Its a great game and a lot of fun. I think one of the best parts is being able to impulse buy a new ship for 15 bucks. Also you can fit everything you need into a snug little box making it uber transportable.

Any game can be pay to win if people take the time to sit down and crack the TFG code. I don't play enough Xwing to speak to this but I cant tell you for sure that it is a neat game with great mechanics and balanced enough for ease of pick up games.

Give it a try.

I say start small. Just get the core set. That is what $45 or $55 Canadian? Try a few games out see if you like then ask questions from there. You might see how your play style is, and then say what it is and people can recommend what to get next.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I know my playstyle is strike and fade. Something that is not typically represented well in games. So far this game seems to represent it a bit better than others. At least from what the answers here, skimming the quick start rules on their site, and a demo game seem to imply. It also appears that the Imperial forces fit that style, just from comments here and in other threads.

You will like TIE Interceptors and TIE Phantoms then.

Or T-70 Aces with a Regen Mech (R5-A2 or R2-D2).

I was leery of X-Wing at first, but my buddy dove in and I ended up enjoying it more than I expected.

That said, I play with a fairly well-curated group of people in a non-competitive environment (even though we're all serious gamers, we're more interested in having fun than winning every time with Mathwinged lists).

One of the biggest things right off the bat will be understanding that it isn't a dogfighting game. It's a StarWarsing game. So leave a lot of your preconceived notions at the door and enjoy the game for what it is: an accessible, fairly uncomplicated game based on a popular brand.

Plus, it's fairly cheap if you're playing in a friendly setting that won't flip off if you're using modification cards you don't actually own. My friends and I just pool all of our cards when we play. There are several places online where you can get ships for just under $10 and if you order enough, they'll ship them for free. Amazon has a fairly good selection and their prices are always lower than MSRP.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Is he a prize for the winner or runner up?

Do they do participation prizes, or only champion and runner up?

Are prizes "better" than other cards/units, or are they neat little trinkets like pins and such?

C-3P0 is the participation prize (as in, top 32 or something).

Prizes are not "better", as in they do not provide an in-game bonus. The acrylic tokens are more hard-wearing, however, so are better from that perspective.

acrylic tokens? I'm guessing versions of the cardboard stuff in the boxes, but which ones are they?

I plan on attending a local shop tournament in March. I will likely lose every match, but it will still be fun. Are there any changes specific to tournaments that I need to be aware of? I definitely do not have the points to do a tournament right now, but plan on getting more stuff soonish. Definitely starting with Imperial, and will probably not have all the cards when I get to it, but will have enough to build a 100pt army by then. Probably will not be an optimized army....but then I rarely go optimal, and usually try to use different strategies than others are used to. I hope to have a Phantom and a couple of Interceptors by then.
