Very cool. Hopefully it's more than just weapons options that differentiate it from the Azrael.

It does look like that lump could be an ap rifle/Flamethrower/panzerfaust.

The spelling change is a bit odd. And suspicious. I'd hold off on thinking it is just the re-spelled Ahl Fassed for the moment. But there goes the Janissary theory I'd be surprised if they super-sized this like the Azra'il, but also intrigued.

Now for the box only mini...

Corvus Belli has messed up spelling before, so it absolutely is not suspicious.

You'll be able to order or pre-order this box from your usual source. However, the Gen-Con deal-- whatever it is this year-- with be available only at Gen-Con, or through CB.

An S5 Heavy Infantry in the box. Looks like it has the HMG, and something else attached. One silhouette seems to be unidentifiable, the 2nd from right.

Well, there's definitely something short and wide slung under the thinner twin barrels. The ammo feed is also thinner than the HMG ammo feed. Could be the Combi Rifle/Heavy Flamer Thrower/Panzerfaust profile with an all in one large gun?

Larger combi rifle (because the model itself is larger), heavy flamer under it (the middle barrel, maybe a pilot light), possibly with a panzerfaust slung at the bottom (the wider barrel)?

Last years Gen Con only model, Van Zant, was available from their webstore during Gencon.

edit - for reference, this is the page on their website that showed it. There were 3 LE models, the Maverick, Maverick Dismount and Van Zant. Van Zant was a direct order solo miniature on their webstore. The Maverick was limited to the box, including boxes that wound up on retail shelves. The Maverick Dismount was available to anyone that pre-ordered the army pack through their webstore.

Looks like Ahl Fassed will be getting a pretty big overhaul. Going to S2 is a big change, but that looks like an LGL or LFT under the HMG, which they don't have on their profile.

Also, that HMG is bent.

Well, it's definitely the Ahl Fasid. The star on the torso matches the unit icon; just differently colored.

Don't Haqq have boarding shotguns have the multi-barrel cartridge, that sorta looks like a grenade launcher?

I can also see using that as a Blackjack.


There's even a skull on the base..... 40k creep!

Personally I am greedily hoping that there is only two Ghulam. I already have the others after all.
If this becomes the standard Haqq Box then I can understand it needing the three but if they are making it more of a Capliphate Starter 2 Ghulams is fine, ends up with 5 (3+2 from starters) Rifle toting ones for base, FO and Docs and Hafzas, along with 4 SWCs for a total of 9, more than enough.

That said, the Haqq starter does need a shake up with the malnourished Jannie and old version Naffatun so I doubt I will see my preference realised.

caliphate starter wouldn't make sense. Book 3 isn't due for what, 2 years?

edit - someone on Facebook pointed out that it exactly matches the Blackjack HMG model. Correct silhouette, and that HMG has an underslung DEP. USAriadna also have very similar basing to Haqqislam and a more washed out green, which matches this model. But then, it's definitely holding a new Haqqislam HMG. This is a bit of a conundrum.

It doesn't really look any more low tech than other HI models, so not sure it really fits for a Blackjack in that regard.

That helmet is not at all Haqq-like. The symbol is very close to the Ahl Fassed. That HMG is only slightly similar the Azra'il's HMG. (when compared side by side)

I think it is the Blackjack-- for no other reason than the HMG+heavy pistol load-out, and the Blackjack is a known S5 profile. One of July's releases? What are those resin colored pieces in the background?

The unit symbols aren't that close, the blackjack symbol is a spade, whereas this is more like a star. The HMG is more than a little bit similar to the Azra'il, and the Azra'il has an AP HMG, so any differences might be down to this one being a regular HMG. There's too many similarities with Haqq heavy armour for me to see it as an Ariadna model. The little round indents on the legs and chest are on the Azra'il and Jannisary armour.

Lots of notes similar to the Azrail, I really can't see it as a blackjack.
Markings look almost like Arabic numerals but not quite.

The colored resin pieces in the background look to be resin masters/3d prints, the one on the right seems to be the father knight model holding its sword 2-handed. I can't see what's the left one though

Pretty sure it's another Father Knight, just from the other side.

I'm definitely seeing this as a Haqq unit, for these reasons.

1) The Helmet (and other parts) have the triple round indents you can find on other Haqq units.
2) Big Gun has the HMG base with the little indents along the barrel like the Ghulam and Azra'il (possibly maggie?) models.
3) The symbol painted on the front looks like an attempt to freehand paint the Ahl Fassed logo painted in black but forgot the star is six points and not five before adding the little arrow at the bottom.
4) Pistol wrist and left knee have white symbols which (to my horribly unlearned eye) look somewhat psuedo-Arabic.

Not saying it's not the Ahl Fassed, it's just... I'm baffled by such a drastic redesign after we just got printed books. This is a pretty drastic redesign - changing their silhouette, changing their loadouts. I can't believe this is something tossed together at the last second, it has to have been in the pipeline for a while. Why the old profiles made it into the print book when a release was so imminent is really strange.

There's units with less drastic changes like just a new weapon that the model probably won't see the light of day that had their updated profile make it into HSN3, while a unit being entirely redesigned was left out.

Only in the world of Infinity do people look at a military unit and wonder if it's American or Arabic.

I'm going to argue it's Haqqislam.

Firstly, the HMG looks like it's from Haqqislam. It has the heat vents on the barrel. Like the Azrail, it has exactly five,


All the Haqqislam HMGs have a boxed barrel with five heat vents with the tip sticking straight out. Also no sights.
Ariadna HMGs have ironsights, boxy barrel, and no side heat vents.

Additionally, there are the bases.

USAriadna bases tend to be dryer, flatter, and feature rocks and/or greenish foliage.
Haqqislam bases tend to be rougher and have no plant life aside from dead tumbleweed stuff. Also, both the Azrail and the mystery model have a skull.

Finally, the Ahl Fassed icon:

Neither icon really matches. Both have a star-like icon with a thing sticking out the bottom like the star.

One bit of evidence towards it being Ariadna is the heavy pistol. It looks like it has a revolver chamber like Ariadna does. Haqqislam doesn't have a heavy pistol, so we don't know what it would look like. However, their pistols are usually not revolvers.

The Blackjack icon isn't star-like, it's a spade.

Interesting to see how they differentiate this guy. Since Ahl Fasseds were just marginally different Janissaries before, much like how Wu Ming were marginally different Invincibles.

I was being vague, yes. Both have a spike-shaped thing with a thingy sticking out the bottom. Haqqi have a star. Ariadna has a spade. Neither look like the icon on that model's chest.

Probably the way they did with Azra'il - silhouette and equipment. The problem was all three budget HI were essentially the same. Azra'il originally stood out with their toolkit profile: AP Rifle, light flame thrower, panzerfaust. They dropped their profile, beefed up their ARM a touch, made them bigger and upgraded the HMG to an AP HMG. The unit thus became the 'heavier weapon' unit with the Fauerbach and AP HMG. Their thing is big guns (which is good, because that fits their fluff along with the big scary armour).

Ahl Fassed now got the same treatment with model size. But they're going to need something to stand apart from the Azra'il now, since they're aping part of what made that unit different. Ahl Fassed now have the toolkit profile, but the first release is a HMG in direct competition with the much better AP HMG Azra'il. I'm guessing Ahl Fasseds thing is going to be budget super HI, so we'll have to see if the lower points cost justify not taking the Azra'il (who are already pretty cheap for HI) with a better HMG.
