That's why I waited to post the link until AFTER I bought my stuff.

I just missed the Dragoes because I was faffing about looking at the non-Infinity stuff, but picked up a Cutter, a few singles (well....ahem....8 singles) and Dire Foes 2 and 4, which are frankly overpriced when not on sale.

I had to physically restrain myself from spending $100 on Haqqislam stuff. Just because I was weak and got Red Veil doesn't mean I'm starting a whole new army!

I know your pain Ubik. I had to stop myself from purchasing even more Haqq models, too. Someday, Govads. Someday. I almost pulled the trigger on the Dragoes, but the fiddlyness of its gun is a big turnoff and I haven't really seen a conversion for it that I like that would rectify it. So, cutter for me as well. I figure it's a superior unit anyway.

I started the day gunning for additions to Haqqislam. Had all of my heart set on the Maggie....that sold out by 10am. Then I was like maybe Janissaries.....sold out. Then I saw the $55 Contact Force and was like "feth it, Onyx it is". Put the Xeodrons in my basket...annnnd....sold out. So now I have an Overdron coming my way.

Op:Ice and Op:Red are both great as *two player* starter sets.

Onyx Force and upcoming Tohaa *one player* starter sets are also great.

These are genuine starter packs useful for new players or veterans looking to start a new army.



Other sets not so much.

I don't think this is a very good analogy as a screwdriver isn't labeled as a "bookshelf starter set" which is my complaint. Same with an infinity starter set. If I buy something called a "starter" I very well expect it to be game legal (even if it's just a 100pt army) and not just common figures that people will want conveniently packaged together but need multiple other purchases to even play a single game. If these boxes were called something like Faction core box or, as GW is doing, Start Collecting boxes I wouldn't have an issue as those don't imply what starter does.

No one ever said it's an easy task. But based off the terminology that CB uses it's expected and many other companies manage to do this just fine (privateer, steamforge, wizards, wizkids, and many others that aren't the size of CB). with CB you don't get any of that hand holding as even the Operation sets are only balanced when using the simpler stat lines but if you play what's in Ice Storm or Red Veil against each other using full rules there's no balance between the factions in my experience. One could argue that if people need that handholding this isn't the game for them but that type of attitude is what prevents a game taking off from actually succeeding in the long term.

I think its also a messaging thing.

There's "Starter Packs" for new players to get into and learn the game.

And then there's "Starter Packs" for starting to collect new factions.

That's pretty much it, with the first definition being the most common in the industry from my experience.

That's not to say the other one isn't useful, but it's just a poorly chosen name in Infinity's case.

On the other topic of the night, I got some good stuff at Miniature market. Hit it right as the sale when live and manage to flesh out most of the missing Tags I wanted. Misses Scarface by about a miniature or so as I had one in my cart but checkout was slow this morning. Did get the second O-Yori I wanted and the Anaconda. Passed of a Raicho (no need) and the Nomad stuff (really outdated).

Also managed to flesh out my tohaa. Sadly, when I came back tonight to get the last of the amount I needed for free shipping the Light infantry box was gone, seams like I had barely missed that. Did pick up a second Kaeltar Specialists as I had everything else in the new army box I might as well match what they had--plus I heard this unit is one of the better ones for the faction (which I haven't played yet).

I don't really understand this comment, the Icestorm forces work out at 170/1.5 and 165/1.5, or both 170/1.5 if you add a few Forward Observers to the Nomads. The Red Veil forces are both 180/2.5 on the dot.

Agreed. I always describe them as 'selection packs' because they're there to give players a feel for what the faction/Sectorial does, rather than being starter packs in the way that other companies use the term.

It's a good thing that the model comes with a tactical handhold to rest her hand on in that comfortable rocket launcher firing pose after slipping on her combat heels.

Additionally, this is apparently an Aleph model, not a Yu Jing model as you may have originally assumed. Don't assume a model's faction identity.

That is one of the most ridiculous poses I've seen them do for a while, which is saying a lot for a company like Corvus Belli.

I really quite like the pose. It harkens back to the dynemisn of the early CB stuff. But seriously CB, still with the combat heels......

Combat Heels are a 'thing' for CB - and I'll admit it, I love 'em!

They are such a small detail that they could be eliminated without much fuss. Or left in without much fuss. On the list of 'dislikes', they are so far down my list as to be inconsequential. Minis with "heroic" sized heads and hands and feet #1. (The *Troglodyte* syndrome) Tactical Debris is #2. Minis that don't fit on a base is #3. [The 25mm base is ~53" in diameter. Plenty of room for a human sized figure.]

That 'nipple' on the right breast though. That can go away. It's not a Riot Grrl mini.

I like the dynamic posing. However, I wish that the mini fit on the base. I do hope the Yu Jing players are happy with it. These newer Yu Jing minis have a nice design. It is turning into very visually appealing faction.

She fits on her base pretty well. Especially compared to, say, the Umbra Samaritan.

The nipple is apparently just a poor choice of a spot for highlighting.

I can usually get over combat heels as well, but when they cause a soldier to trip and fall like in the case of that Wu Ming, it's dangerous.

I know they're basically penal corps, and their gear is state-issued and mandated, but at least don't give the combat-heel-trippy-trooper the rocket launcher! They're Wu Ming, not Kuang Shi!

They said the Musashi box would have both models, Gencon was just a early release, not an alternate set.

What are the odds of it being an really early shot of the Nomad peeps. I could see that as a jacket tail on that new Not-Colossus dude.

Love the pose on the Wu Ming HRL, one of the most dynamic I've seen. Al Fasid is similarly incredible.

To sum up, October's releases:

This looks much, much better than the renders led me to believe. Lesson learned. Wait until it is finished before forming an opinion. Ah well.

Wu Ming HRL may be the most interesting mini this month. Or the Montesa.

Yeah the finished Ahl Fassid looks much better than the render did, and I quite liked the render. Now to make a list with 2 Ahl Fassids and 2 Azra'ils!

Gotta' say.. I think that might be the best sculpted SMG CB have ever done IMO. I'm mighty impressed.

At the store today I heard that Ariadna is also getting TAG's, verrrrry low-tech ones at that. Yay if true!

So the Blackjacks? :p

Apparently USAriadna sectorial gets Scarface and Cordelia now? Is that new or did I miss it?
