Hello,

We’re in the process of painting of several Tau armies – and we’ve finished Ghostkeel suits for each of them. Take a look at them, compare and share your thoughts.

1) High-tech Tau

2) Display Tau

3) Black Tau

4) Blue Tau

(the white matter under the feet is blu-tac – the model is not glued to the base to be sure he’ll make it in the shipment )

Which one you like the most and why? Do you have any idea how can we paint the fifth Ghostkeel suit?
Soon more of these project will be unfold

I liked the Black best, followed by the Display. The Black wins because the red glowing effect on the Display rubble bases looks silly. Why would rubble be glowing? It's rubble. If you want to give it different colors, that's fine, but don't use an OSL effect for something that shouldn't be glowing.

The Hi-Tech is ok, I suppose, considering that it doesn't seem to have much detail work.

The Blue looks completely unfinished. My first thought was "someone went overboard with an airbrush laying down a basecoat". I'm not sure it even meets the old tournament standard of three colors and a base. The model itself appears to be just blue and white.

And sums up what that shitstorm airbrush thread in the painting forum is about. I mean it's not that much of a problem if it's their cheapest option for someone who just wants their army painted so they can play but don't want to do it themselves. But still, at least add in another colour. Not much, just a contrasting colour on the optics and maybe a single panel, and it'd be way better.

What am I supposed to be looking at?

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

The black one definitely looks cool.

The overglowy blue one reminds me of an Archon from Starcraft2, only without the spherical energy ball lol. Seriously it looks like a mass of energy taken physical, humanoid form

The display suits are the best. I like that there seems to be more attention to detail on those model. The black is cool but has Little detail pulled out and little contrast. The blue is...well just blue. If you tried more of a mirror affect then maybe it would be better but it just looks like no detail was done on the model,

I do what the voices in my wifes head say...

I suppose these represent different levels of comission standard?

I really like the display guys, exept for the weird glowy bases.
Their subtle camo pattern look great, and having different shades on armourplates and
the machanical base structure (instead of one paint effect to cover the whole model)
really make them look less like an common toy and more like a downscaled war construct.

The black is the best and really I'd say you got the OSL spot on for it (you usually seem to go overboard or have the source the same tone as the glow around it), usually it's been a bit hit or miss on that with you stuff. Look back to it for future ones.
