He's made from mostly Sanguinary Guard bits. I want to start learning how to use greenstuff properly, what can I do that'll make him fit the 30k aesthetic a bit more? (I've already thought about smoothing over his knee pads to cover the crosses).

(also in the pic are his bodyguards Rek and Ruin, haven't come up with a name for the praetor yet)

Captain Rick doesn't seem very Blood Angely. Besides, my Dark angels currently have Captain Colin "Roller of 1's", I'd like my Blood Angels to be a bit more 'bad ass'

ditch any X's, remember that the blood angels used black trims over gold trims, trim down some of the Iconography depending on how much pageantry you want (there was less pageantry within the legions, but it was still there).

This! Me too. My work always looks rubbish once it's photographed (or maybe it looks rubbish beforehand...)

but I agree, I think this model and paint job is coming along quite nicely! Covering up the kneepads was a good idea I think. If you were looking for even more of a 30K feel I'd add in a few rivets and studs on the shoulder pads, but I suppose that's too late now (sorry I didn't see this earlier! )

Looks awesome! Only thing I'd suggest would be to brighten up the sword blade a little, just at the edges. Really like the base too, is that just cork?

Cheers. I tried painting some lightning on the blade of the sword, didn't got so well though. I'll try brightening it up a bit.

Yeah the base is just cork cut into little squares and glued down to look like flag stones.
