I read the book. It's probably more accurate to call it Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Ninjas.
But yes...MOAR ZOMBIES. Which I personally took to be *PART OF THE JOKE* involved with the book when the author took a stuffy literary classic and weaved undead and way-over-the-top action sequences into the story.
Having said that, the marketing for this seems...off, somehow. Like it's just a run-of-the-mill zombie movie with fancy dress. If it's handled like the book, the Pride and Prejudice story is still there despite all the mayhem. I dunno...I feel like people aren't quite getting it based on the marketing.

I think the initial premise is funnily, as an idea.
But to stretch the idea to two hours of cinema probably wont work, at least not for me.
The trailer has done nothing to convince me otherwise.

I can't say I'm excited for this one, and I say that as a rampant zombie fanboy. I love Z Nation if that explains it further.
But after the massive success of TWD, why is Hollywood only producing zombie comedies? Clearly there is a market for survival horror post-apoc zombie video, yet all they make is comedies. And all of them failed terribly when compared to Shaun of the Dead. Recently we've had that Boy Scout one, this, Warm Bodies; and I'm sure there's more but kinda drunk and can't think.
The only major budget picture I can think of that tried to be even remotely a horror movie was WWZ, which was just horrible on so many levels. The last horror Z movies were Rodriguez's remake of Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later, and both those are over a decade old.
I know zombies are played out and trite for most people, a lot fans included, but the whole idea is rooted in the horror genre, and it clearly sells, so why aren't they making movies to satiate this? To me it seems like tons on money not being tapped.
I really hope Garth Ennis can get Crossed: DOA live-action produced well and with a decent budget.

Read the book. It was an amusing time killer. But like any adaptations from Hollyweird, I always maintain a healthy bit of skepticism.

I think it's because "The Walking Dead" is so popular, they think, "films can't top that as a serious zombie film" so they decide to try something 'original' in a zombie comedy, which ends up being identical to all the other 'original' zombie comedy ideas.

Well, we haven't seen it yet. Maybe it does contain the story of the on-off, love-hate romance between Miss Bennett and D'Arcy, like Warm Bodies contained the Romeo and Juliet story. Both are classics and offer a good basis for a modern adaptation.

Saw Pride and Prejudice and Zombies last night - wonderfully enjoyable - action, drama , romance, comedy and zombies - lovely
The three of us really enjoyed especially the girl in the group who said that many of the original lines are still in and work just as effectively.

Saw it with the wife last night and we quite enjoyed it. We had to see it last night if we wanted to catch it in theatres be a use of its poor box office it'll probably be gone next week.
Didn't care for the cut scene ending during the credits though. So I'll pretend it ended when the credits started. Which I'm pretty sure was why they did that. Pick the ending you want.

The review in the Evening Standard had a amusing comment; part of the point of the original book is that Elizabeth is not the prettiest girl in the room, so it's a triumph (of character, etc) that she manages to win Darcy.
But Lily James who plays Elisabeth in the film, is the prettiest girl in the room.
(I have to say she is lambent in War and Peace.)

Yeah, the make up and hair people did to good a job on her. I'm normally not a huge fan of Lily James. Though she was undeniably prettier than the "pretty" sister I thought the redhead the cutest of the bunch.

Lily James is pretty but then The girls were all pretty IMO It was fun all the put downs from her mother and others about her being nearly as pretty as her sister,,,,,
Also Jane was very cute - depends I think it will depend if like them blonde and winsome or brunette and fiesty (although obviously they could all kick ass) or redhead or etc etc......
Judging by the amount of laughing during and her comments after from my friend who is familiar with both the original and the PPZ book, she thought the lines were great.......

Read part of the book, was a fun joke, but it had trouble "gripping me" in the way other books do, so I never finished it.
Anyone care to weigh in on how funny it was? Having just seen the awesomeness that was Deadpool, I know P&P&Z probably won't hold up, but is this a See it in theaters, Rent it, or Pass?

We lauughed an awful lot during the film as the lines and situtations really worked - do you like pretty girls fighting zombies in a well presented period setting with many good actors? If so try it.

It won't be Deadpool. But it was genuinely enjoyable. I wanted to see it in theatres because it felt like something to see in theatres. I don't regret the money I spent and think the theatre enhanced the first viewing.
Overall it was a fun movie that my wife and I both enjoyed and that I'll probably grab on Blu-ray when it comes out for pretty girls being ninja's as background noise when I paint/build models.

According to The Guardian Deadpool is cleaning up in the UK while Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is sinking pretty rapidly.
It doesn't help that it hasn't been screened at a lot of the larger cinemas in the area (where I am, in the Thames Valley, anyway.)

Yeah likely to be true - there were few at the showing of PPZ we went to but loads at Deadpool - who I hate but evidently it hits the mark with many people.
