Hey guys!
The paintjob on my raven is almost complete, so now I am trying to figure out what the best gear would be.
I magnetized every last bit except for the heavy bolters - I dont think I will ever have a use for them.
I already found out, that the TL Assaultcannon outperforms the TL Lasercannon against every AV and there is no need to say that it is more versatile as it is also very good against all kinds of infantry.
I'm not sure about Multi Melta or Typhoon Misilelauncher though, what would your weapon of choice be?

It's okay, as the Stormraven is overcosted in 7th.

Yes, but this is the most effective, least expensive variant. So if someone is going to take the SR, they might as well have the best one.

I fly mine with MM/AsC.
None of the paid upgrades are worth the points IMHO.

There are cases where the typhoon is worth it, but it's a gamble.

The TML is not a bad weapon, and I love them on speeders. I just think they cost too many points on the flyers, where you can get better/more flexible options for less.
25 points to pull out a perfectly serviceable TLMM? Not worth it.

Except that melta weapons are actually bad at anti-tank now.

And you think a tml is better? I wouldn't take the tml if it was free (unless I saw nothing but nids in my meta), let alone at 25 points.
No, a tlmm on a flyer chassis is decent, even if the flyer itself is overcosted unless you are utilising it's transport capacity. For all your bitching Martel, the inclusion of a raven (amongst other things, I'm not saying it's all due to the raven) has led to an increase in number of games won by your own admission.

Only because it's a requirement of a formation with 400 pts of free stuff. The raven itself, along with reserves, are still bad.
The TML is much better at hping out medium to light vehicles, and it is fully effective outside of 12". With TML and assault cannon, you only need to get within 24" to be fully effective. The TML can also put more wounds on most MCs. The price tag still sucks, though.

I vote for the multimelta. The TMLs price tag is what puts me off, though if it were free, I'd broadly agree with the "two shots are better than one" argument. You need to be within 24" to use the assault cannon anyway. Granted, you need to be within 12" to use the Melta rule, but the TLMM is still S8, so if the TML can hurt the target, so can the MM. It's more likely to cause an explosion, but you can't rely on that - call it a bonus the one time in a dozen that it actually happens. (Unless you explode a Trukk, which isn't really a challenge...)
Also, the TLMM is a little more reliable if your intended target winds up being heavy infantry or an MC, instead of a tank - at least for 2+ MCs. (That's where I'd take the TML if it were free - against 3+ or worse saves, two shots are strictly better than one).
Is it an amazing, always-kills-anything-any-time weapon? No, but for free, it's far from garbage.
You're absolutely right about the heavy bolter, though. Why, oh why - it's almost universally worse than the TLMM.

The price tag does mostly ruin the TML.

Melta is still great. Especially when it's twin-linked.
AC + MM is the most versatile combo.
TML is cool too but it costs extra.
Magnetize! Noone knows what's gona happen next. Maybe it's gona get an option for a t-l gravcannon with amps.

Well, I would take TML on my Stormraven if I know I am going to play against Tyranids with flyrants. that two shot str8 ap3 is much better in hunting FMCs, while expensive, it is still cheaper than a properly kitted out Flyrant (which is somewhere 240pts)

I don't agree that melta is great. Needing to roll a 5+ to get the desired effected turns into hp stripping too much of the time. And MCs just laugh at melta's poor ROF. The only truly great use for melta is praying for 5+ against super heavy walkers, like knights. Melta doesn't even double out much of any kind of unit that matters anymore. TWC are also laughing at melta.

5+ to explode is infinitely better than no chance at all when you need it. And it's just cheaper + better chances of actually doing anything against armor within melta range.

Except it's inferior at hping the target out. Which is probably what you will have to do.
