It's sounds like it could potentially be really stupidly broken as it'd be immortal to everything but a few weapons.

No just no. Several armies don't have widespread access to AP1. Orks, darkeldar, just off the top of my head would be stuck against that.

1s always fail on armor saves, so the only thing a 1+ save grants over a 2+ is how it interacts with the AP system.

If it was on something like a marine, with T4, you can still be drowned in bolter fire. If you get it on a wraithknight, then yes, pretty much unkillable.

We had that in WHFB. It was great with save modifiers rather than a flat AP system.

Not really, you kill termies by drowning them in saves. It's almost always a waste to spend AP2 weapons on them.

I think the Avatar of Khaine had a 1+ armour save way back in the mists of time. Though I think that was at a time where there was armour save modifiers like what Fantasy had.

They already have something that can auto pass saves, Aun'Va *IIRC* Space Pope of the Tau Empire can negate an entire round of AP1 shooting since he passes saves based on the AP of the weapon.

IE Ap1 he has to rolls a 1 or higher, basically automatically passing. AP6 - Well he's screwed.

One of the problems with termis is that you can either kill them with massed small arms -or- a handful of AP2 shots. So the only thing they are really tough against is low volume AP3+ shots. Yawn. By giving them some protection vs. all the AP2 out there, they at least get some more survivability.

I’m not saying it would make them top units, but it might make them a little more viable. And as far as boosts go, it does fit their fluff, is a simple mechanic, and not really game breaking.

I don't think they understand their own rules well enough to grasp how a 1+ save would fit in the game.

No, it was a 2+. I had him die many 'a time to Plasma of all kinds.

Sevrin Loth basically has a 1+ armor save, with his ability he has a 2+ invulnerable save. With the rules stating a 1 is always a fail isn't that mechanically the same.

It's better, a 1+ save wont get a roll against melta unless you're in cover.

Rolling a 1 (or 6 in some instances) is always a natural fail.

Abaddon used to have a 2+ on the sum of 2 dice.

These days the rules tend to be 1 always fail so all 1+ would do is add immunity to ap2.

See, the right way to do this would to gve a melee unit a 1+ that only works against shooting. Sure, it's invincible to shooting for the most part, but it needs to be in melee to do anything, at which point it's save drops to something normal. It can also be used on objectives to force people into engaging it.

Doesn't even have to have amazing melee stats either.

Better not. Better approach would be rise ap values of guns (example grav would be ap3 etc).

We have an armor values which will protect low powered guns (or high toughness). But I would be happy if all armors would have a same mechanic.

If you wish to grow wise, learn why brothers betray brothers.

Maybe the Emperor will get an armour save like that if FW ever makes a model and rules
? His armour in the artwork does look very strong.
