Freshly conscribed into the galaxy's greatest fighting force; the Imperial Guard. My troops have had years of training sitting in their battleforce/boxes unassembled, but soon it is their time to mobilise in defence against the horrors of M41!

(OOCI'm new to Astra Millitarum so any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. I am also open to suggestions to conversions and even maybe even a couple of small purchases.

I'm looking to assemble a small imperial guard army. It MUST include:

2 sentinels

2 nade bullgryns with a powermaul champion

1 commissar/lord

My question is:

How to assemble ~31 cadians* and 5 MT* scions?

to compliment the above 'must haves' and what load out would suit the sentinels?

Before I can give any real advice are you going to be blob guard, tank guard, mech, or mix?

Drop the sentinels, they are beyond useless.
The scions should do good with roughly 2 plasma or 2 melta.
The cadians are tough. But for now 2 meltas per 10 and run a veterans.
If you want.

I won't drop the sentinels, these are one of the models that drew me to the army so I just have to work around them. Only having two is a concession as really I would have wanted more!

I'm looking at 1k points max, maybe even only 750. Is it even possible to make a decent blob with those points?

I like to have infantry do my leg work. With what I have available my options seem to be I could have ccs, 3 vet squads and a scion squad, or a pcs, 2 infantry squads, a vet squad and a scion squad. I guess an alternative would be to have an inquisitor as primary, which would let me run the IG as allies so I could put everything into one platoon. If I ran the IG as allies to an inquisitor would it be worth investing points in heavy/special weapon squads or should I just go maximum blob?

Regarding the sentinels, I MUST have them in my army, but I have no idea how to equip them effectively. Seeing as I'm not so interested in the IG tanks, perhaps I should use them as mobile weapon platforms? Should I run them separately or paired up? Armoured or scout?

Scout Sentinels are harrasment units. Keep them cheap and out flank them in your opponents backfield and try to shoot at rear armor. Magnetise their guns!
Those Cadians can be broken into:
Vet squad 4 lasguns 3 plasma guns 1 Lascannon1 sergeant
Vet squad 2 the same.
Company command squad 1 commander, 4 Special weapons riding in the Vendeta you will buy.
CCS 1 commander 1 Regimental banner 1 Lascannon 1 Plasma.
Hope that helps.
Ορμα Ηρωα!
For two Sentinels I would go Scout with AC and HKM or cheap with ML. Lascannons and Heavy Flamers are better on Armoured ones

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Ok, if you must use them. Conver them slightly into drop sentinels from forgeworld. Run give them a Multi melta and deep strike them yo kill a vehicle

Ah I like harassment units, I think I will do that! Good suggestion on the swappable guns, didn't think of that one :S

That's given me a further idea; with all the spare parts from the heavy weapon teams I could make a bunch of heavy weapons bases with no guys on top and just pick and choose the heavy weapons I want and stand the men on the bases I choose.

Are vox casters worth using in such an army?

Edit: Ninja'd omg drop sentinels sound like awesome fun! Where do I find the rules for those?

With a little effort you can make 9 HWTs out of each box. You keep the kneeling legs of are the gunners and add a standing or prone loader.
Drop Sentinels latest rules are in IA 8 the raid on Castolem Nuevum (the orks one). However 1 BS3 Multimelta shot at BS3 isn't very reliable. Sentinels need rate of fire weapons.

Ah well I'll probably stick to scouts for now then.

Am I mad to want to run a bonehead as warlord in smaller games? Every other option looks super prone to dieing!

You want resilient HQs you are playing wrong faction. Grab Yarrick and place him in a 30 man b lob. That's resilient/

Ah, well I don't want resilient as such, but choosing a CCS or PCS character as warlord seems like giving slay the warlord away... at least if a bullgryn is warlord the enemy will have to make a mean look AND shout loudly to get slay the warlord :p.
