Hey my name is Jay, I'm new to the forums and joined for one purpose. I have designed a campaign system for 40 based off 7th rules and was hoping for some feedback from players out there. I've had a play test with friends numbering about 4 players and a run at our local store with about 10 regular players. I have some maps for use but this system will also work with the planetary empire tiles also.

I was hoping other players would play test it or look for some odd cracks or loop hole.

The core rules are attached

THESE ARE ALSO UPDATED.

I'm going to print this and read it later. For now, I just want to say that those maps are gorgeous. How did you make them?

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

Let me start by saying that I have been trying to pin down a conquest campaign system for months now and haven't been able to find anything I liked but this is everything I've ever wanted really. I'm impressed.

first off, I would print this off and have a trusted friend proofread it. Everything comes off okay but there are a few obvious typos here and there.

I like the CHQ mechanic and love the death chart. Really makes me want to think about how to kit him out. Restoration is cool, but I think I've missed what "Strategic Resources" are. Are they the same as the resource slots generated from the locations? If so, that either needs to made more clear or actually replaced with "Resource Slot."

The stationary/ mobile forces are cool. That brings me back to playing risk for some reason. They all seem balanced, except for Footsloggers and Raiders. Footslogging is just weird IMO and 3+d3" of movement is too random for me to want to take it. Raiders could be cool but feels weak to me. Maybe you could take cues from the Night Lords Legion rules and give them a flat bonus to S or I when Night Fighting is in effect?

The bonuses granted for controlling different locations all seem balanced against one another, but I feel like if I was running these rules with my own group some people would outpace each other too quickly. The addition of resource slots means you would have to own a rather large collection to really participate fully. Now, if your own group is all equally yoked and well entrenched in the hobby, this isn't an issue. But if I am running this campaign with my own play group, one other guy and myself would be the only people around who could really test the rules. Of course, one player could potentially allocate identical or very similar units to multiple locations, he still misses out on getting to play around with the system a lot.

I would suggest a Requisition Point RP system a la HoR Kill Team where controlled locations generate RP and that can be converted to Resource Slots if you want but also can be converted to things that don't involve buying more models.

All in all, I like it. Well Done.

Awesome thanks for the feed back means a lot.

Spelling will be addressed and corrected and ill put up the revised version in time.

Ok, so let go over what you concerns are:

1- Resource Slots vs. Strategic Resources.... So these are both different aspects of the Campaign, and unfortunately on my part sound very similar; i may change the titles of the two in the revised copy. However here is the difference between the two.
-------Resource Slots are the Force Organization Slots that are gained and destroyed in the campaign.
------- Strategic Resources are like the ones from the Apoc Book, certain asset card like "Bombardment" require them to be used, also these are used for the Restoration aspect for CHQ's, and the last part to these is the Extra Abilities that the attacker may use.

2-Raider and Foot Slogger Specialties... So the specialties being on how your allowed 3 aren't made to be super even in power during game play, but rather give your army that little speck of flavor, especially when used together, for instant raiders is the simple design of night fight control and a small boon. Depending on the army this may be a huge boost, such as a bike army, or transport rush, etc... As for the Foot Slogger, we have played with this a lot, its an old throwback to the Black Templars "Righteous Crusade" rule and how if they took DMG they moved up faster to there goal/target.

3-So as for the outpacing aspect of the game that your concerned for there are two things.
------The first is that, it sounds like your understanding is that once a Resource Slot has a unit picked, such as a bike squad using a FA slot, that it must stay that for the rest of the campaign or till destroyed. In fact think of the Resource Slot as an empty jar, where once you use the jar and it is not destroyed in a battle it then becomes empty again ready to fill with a new/same unit for each battle.
------The second is during early testing we did a bunch of games and tallied up the death toll of units destroyed. Where a few games yielded a side not really losing units or both sides being unscathed; the majority of the games saw that both sides lost most of there units. As we played more players began to realize " Crap i'm losing but i have forces ready for a second attack next campaign turn...HMMMM let me sacrifice this game and gun for the destruction of all their HVY SUP. slots so they aren't a problem next time." So to sum up; the carnage was a lot which was intended but to keep the armies maintained the gaining of slots was increased. If the lack of models is truly a negative, then my group has shared armies, also keep in mind that you can take whatever armies, units, and combos you want. This was made to simulate the "What you got, is What you Got" aspect of war.

I hope I answered you questions, if not post me again and ill try to help

I will also be posting all the missions i have updated, created, and found so players may have to use. There are like 50+.

all fair points. I suppose I misunderstood the stationary/ mobile forces stuff. I only started playing on the tail end of 5th ed so I have no memories of the old BT dex but it sounds sorely missed. I look forward to seeing those other missions.

Its all good i am very great-full for the input im reviewing the concerns now and after your mention of the spelling and typos, i have foud spots that may be worded better I'm working on the updated version asap and will need a day or 2 to get it up but this is what i wanted a good break down of the rules.I want the update to look more professional and cool with pics as well.

And yes the missions are getting scanned in soon also.

I also wanted to see if PPL had so cool idea for planetary rules for fluff of Environments or creatures... etc....

Very very interesting - I will jot down the documents and give them a read later on.

I am running a similar campaign, which could give some inspiration. It's a similar hexagon based plot, where it's a galaxy that is being overtaken. A bunch of planets, where each planets missions has a special condition to the game in play.

Example map:

Rules for each planet:

It's a lot more small scale than your excellent efforts here though. I will give more feedback once I have had a chance to read it all through.

If you want the photoshop file for the planet map, just let me know - I can send you the editable map and the rules sheet for use in your own group It does require someone who knows how to use photoshop and layers though, but the offer is out to anyone who wants it.

Yeah thx hope you enjoy it! It has some good aspects of resources to it and how choices matter in preserving forces and choosing the right battles. Check out my missions post for some fun missions to play. Also feel free to make up your own planet rules for fluff.
