Before anyone assumes anything, no I haven't been painting with my own blood...sort of lol.
I was wondering, has anyone ever tried this? Or has known anyone/any examples of someone doing this for warhammer?
It's just something that occurred to me when assembling my plague marine models, a pretty fresh cut on my finger was kinda dry and slightly split open when working on a model, and a bit of blood coated a little bit of this ribcage pauldron on one of my marines. I looked it over and thought "hey, that actually looks pretty darn natural..." and made me play with the thought of how blood would work on models.
Granted, I don't think it'd work out real well, it'd probably be real easy to come off compared to actual paint. just something I was wondering.

I think I can remember a guy painting his Khorne models with his own blood. At least people spoke about it on Dakka. It's quite disturbing. It'll get nasty...

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Is it really that disturbing? I'd think the only disturbing part would be where exactly you're getting the blood...

I think it was in the book Fulgrim, that an artist painted her masterpiece using her blood, tears and other bodily fluids smeared upon the canvas.

Also blood would be bad as a painting medium, you're much better off looking how to replicate it with paint as it'd actually look more like blood than actual blood will over time.

As blood dries, the iron in the blood will turn brown, so the colour will change. Unless you varnish it, it will eventually flake. I really, really wouldn't recommend it, it is possible to achieve a realistic look without resorting to self harm.

Oh it's nothing I would ever consider actually doing myself, sorry if that wasn't clear in the original post. Just a question I wanted to pose. Automatically Appended Next Post:

It can be done, but you have to spin the plasma out of it and use the non plasma sediment as a base to dilute.
Legend has it that Stradivarius used his blood in the lacquer for his violins. That is why their sound is so unique and impossible to reproduce.

If I found out my opponent was doing that, I'd pack up and leave.
Not because it offends me, but because dry blood is a stupidly irresponsible substance to have on items you take out in public.
That said, it would change colour and lose the effect anyway.

Science 1 - 0 this thread.
Also what others said, too creepy for me. Having other people actually maul your models gives me enough absolute nightmares without having to worry about another geezers inner workings on mine.

Once spun out and diluted in the mediums necessary to use it, it would no longer be a danger.

I'm not thinking the kind of person inclined to paint minis in body fluid is going to do that.

No, we keep it strictly for use in our weekly sacrifices to the Ancient Ones.
Seriously, not cool, no, painting in bodily fluids very much not cool (even if we're kinda working at making things look *like* them, it's just not the same.)

I've painted some Eldar pieces in my old own blood. It's perfectly fine and sanitary if you put a good coat of varnish over it. Besides got to do something with all that crimson when you slash open your finger with an excto knife.

Not miniature painting, but I know some guy called Vincent castigilia who has his some of his own blood removed by transfusion and uses it as a medium to paint on canvas (one of the few SFW painting by him I could find):
It's not an orthodox way of painting for sure

Ha, this topic was discussed before the Doomthumbs "non-cheating" guide to painting gene stealers.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/394884.page
The reason for ban was explained by the MODs of being "not up for discussion" which I guess is the way to be.
So, using ANY kind of blood as a paint medium runs into a few hygiene and bio-hazard issues.
There are a few just plain moral and squeamish issues associated with it as well.
Yes, in the scheme of things, we donate blood to no ill effect and you can coat your entire body twice with the contents of that bag (depending on how big you are).
Painting the daemons in blood starts looking like some ritual which I feel we do not need to give as evidence to the various religious types.
I am sure a nice clear-coat could separate us from the nastiness of the coating but it does beg the question: where do you draw the line?
Gore could be real gore, I would be happy to disallow it as a means of "cheating" just to end argument.
There are many ways to paint some realistic looking blood and not have to deal with the use,"freshness" and disposal of a more natural medium.
Plus, I have stabbed myself quite badly for my art but I will bloody well not do it intentionally.
