Hello! I know first off that chaos terms are not "super competitive" but that's not necessarily my needs. I am looking for a good unit build.
(5 man unit normally, but maybe 3 mans some times)
I was thinking along these lines:
mark of tzeentch, volw.
in the 5 man would be
4 combi melta, 1 autocannon, 3 lightning claw, 2 power axe.
Is it better to add chain fists?
So maybe
3 with combi melta, 3 chain fist (incase I want to run a 3 man anti tank) then do the other 2 with claws?
I have to pick up a few bits if I go past 2 combi meltas cause that's what I have currently but that's no issue.

When I run Chaos termies, I almost always opt for the following build:
3 Termies, MoN, 2 chainfists, 1 power maul (on champion), at least 3 combi weapons (you could swing 2 melta and 1 plasma, which is easy to make from a spare plasma pistol).
I deepstrike in and aim to blow up something key. If I fail to blow it up, I can always charge in with the chainfists and power maul (which lets me swing at initiative, and if I lose a termie, the power maul-wielder goes first).
I recommend that you skip VoTLW and use the Nurgle mark due to resistance to small arms fire (which is more likely to kill your 1 wound model). I also no longer run units of larger than 3: it is a small footprint that can't really be ignored, but losing it won't give you fits. If you don't want the Nurgle mark, just run them without one.

I would probably obtain a sixth termie, and then run two squads of three. Five is a larger footprint if you DS in, and it is too large to fit in a land raider (if you keep your options open UPDATE: too large if you tack on a character, that is...Otherwise, it is just right). If you still feel like running five, I would ditch the reaper AC (it is too expensive for termies, methinks), and load up on combi weapons and 1 or 2 chainfists (as you suggested in OP)....Then pick something you want to accomplish with it (remove a key vehicle, eradicate a squad) and tool accordingly.
I still don't think that I would add the Tzeentch mark on account of price...But if I did, I would max out the termie squad and just make a big Tzeentch termiestar (which I have seen in action, with Arihman in tow).

I'll tell you right now that the Autocannon is like 10-15 points overcosted. Don't use it.
The best loadout is 3-4 dudes with either Axes or Mauls and add the max amount of either Combi-Melta or Combi-Plasma you can. The only mark not worth much is MoS, due to lacking grenades and therefore making half your charges not gain anything from I5. Quite frankly it is best to leave them unmarked.

3 dudes, 3x combi melta, 3x Power Axes, 112 points. Accept that they're going to die after they've done their job (or failed because 3 melta shots is rather susceptible to dice luck) and if by some miracle they survive, charge them into the squishiest thing they can reach in a turn. Adding anything else is a waste of point if you're looking to be competative.
If you're looking to simply make a fun unit, then build whatever you want, that's the point of a fun unit. MoT and a smattering of chainfists in a raider don't do terribly against a knight heavy army. MoN, a reaper and combi plas can shamble up the field while protecting your backfield from deep strikers moderately OK. MoK and a mix of claws and fists will shred almost anything it touches if it can get into combat.

Mine are MoK. 2 axes, one chain fist, 2 pairs of lightning claws. They nearly always fail to make their points back, but can be fun.

That's because you pay a price for the ability to customize freely, and the price isn't worth it.
At most you'll take 1 Chainfist in a squad of 4-5 as that's all that's needed. Anything more means you're trying to harm things you'll fail against in the first place. Of course you could take two Power Fists instead of one Chain Fist.

I used to use the old three man termicide squad. Three of them with combi meltas can power axes, maybe mark of Nurgle. Combined with a bunch of obliterators for a nasty turn two attack.

My best results with them were 3 unmarked with combi-plazma. Mace on champ, mace and axe on dudes. Melee weapon loadout is not guaranteed to be best but it rarely comes to melee with them.
