Hiding behind terrain

I seen a thread on leadadventures about Kmart Australia clearing out cheap Grafix tank models so I grabbed a few to make proxies from. Theyre roughly 6" L x 3" W x 2" H.
Ive never been happy with how small space marine tanks are so Im going to use these tanks to make larger ones. Just got to raise the turret slightly, switch the guns and maybe make the turret turn.
Also $3 sure beats the $83 GW wants for a baal that Id use to make each razorback with a traditional turret.
Besides this I havent bought anything new. Still trying to find time to finish off various terrain that is burying my desk.

So far I've kept my promise for no new purchases until after Mid-March, although that Deathwatch box is mighty tempting. I've kept distracted from purchasing by a solo KDM campaign, and getting back into sketching again.
I think after the 21st I'll just pick up the Perry Miniatures American Civil War box(eventually), and then continue my plastic purchasing hiatus. I've got plenty laying around that needs some paint slapped on as it is.

This one is weaseling its way into my head too I NEED the genestealer cult stuff. I've never regret getting rid of my Tyranids until right this very second when I wish I had them all back, and the Space Hulk and the Deathstorm 'Stealers. The new rules and the awesome hybrid models are rekindling my love for 'Nids. and even (dare I say it) 40k

A friend and I, and his wife, all go down to London for a long weekend when Salute's on. We buy many miniatures, she buys shoes, handbags, etc. Seems fair (and one year, she out spent my friend anyway).
I did, when I was younger play the "no, I've had those for ages" gambit when questioned by a parent.

I treat myself to a zone mortalis set last week, but I'm not counting that as breaking the pledge because a, it's a gaming table, so will encourage more actual game play, and b, the money didn't come from salary or savings (still legally acquired). I've set myself a target of building everything I have for 40k over the Easter holiday, and everything for fantasy over summer. That'll clear up lots of space, and at least enable me to game with everything.

If you desperately need it probably best to borrow it from next time's purchasing, so.you can buy this one and skip the next thing you really want. Or hold out and hope to god its on ebay.

So my new years resolution was to paint more models than I buy, well that isn't going so well. So far I've painted 40, and brought 90!
I feel there are three things to blame for this,
#1 the first model I picked to paint this year was an imperial knight, due to my limited hobby time it took me 7 weeks to do, start to finish!
#2 the local toy shop had a 50% off clearance sale on WHFB stuff. Box's of dwarf warriors, 16 for £10 was too good to miss.+ some ironbreakers, shadow warriors another box of vampire counts skeletons. Ok I lapsed that week give me a break.
#3 Last Chance to buy. I have 4 WHFB armies to finish damn it, this weekend I HAD to make an order for some high elves / dwarfs.
I feel I need to hunker down and get some units finish in the next three weeks, as I'm going to salute, a week after I get my annual bonus. I fear I may fall so far behind I'll never catch up.

I have been doing fairly well so far not buying anything. For the longest time (the past decade...) I would buy something every week if I needed it or not. More often then not the box of miniatures would just sit under my hobby table and would not be looked at for many years. I started my non-purchasing vow last year and so far I have bought nothing. The only thing I will allow myself to buy is an Imperial Knight so I can have some practice before I start working on my Warhound Titan I bought last year in July.
So far I still have thousands of unbuilt models under my tables, but at least I have not added to it. My bank account is really showing my savings . I just need to do a non-purchasing vow for my other hobbies aswell, then I can afford the house I want to buy next year.
I seriously feel like I'm in an AA group... I've been clean for three months .

The Infinity bug bit me but I'm trying to keep it cheap. No buying of entire factions. At least not yet. Also picked up that Genestealer Cult I was wanting the models are so pretty though... Went to a convention this previous weekend and managed to not spend money on anything except supporting the organizations hosting the event and the tournaments held that day. Felt good to walk out with some prizes and a still mostly full wallet
Once I barter around and settle into a faction for Infinity, I don't think I'm going to buy much else for the forseeable future. I'll need to paint up that army for regular Saturday gaming, and then paint up the Maelstrom's Edge box so I can start giving demos of that. Should have another Kickstarter coming in soon (finally) that could be a fun game and also could bolster my Infinity collection. Lots of painting to do for that one though too. Got some Firestorm Armada on the painting table but I doubt I'll ever play that game. I just like the big space ships
I'm just choosing to ignore the Sedition Wars box and baggies of Relic Knights in my drawers for now. They might get traded or sold to finance other games stuff. Tyranids are on the painting backburner for now. I love the models and the fluff but I don't think I'll be getting many 40k games any time soon.
I'm... starting to realize I need to start a catalog of stuff I have. It's already too late for me. Save yourselves

Yeah I picked up a few models from the Last Change to Buy with the intention of having them hit the paint Station ASAP.
I figure so long as I make it a priority to paint what I've bought this year so far I'm good! Then I can slowly begin whittling away at "the pile" as it were...

Somehow I have managed to keep from buying a Stormsurge, but I've bought just about everything else...
I've told myself I've just bought my last big purchase (an X-wing Raider) for my birthday coming up in May, so I'm hoping I can change my focus to painting up the literal years of models I've accumilated. I've been doing well lately, painting up my Betrayal At Calth set, down to 3 Tau figures and painting up all the figures for my 'nid army (still a few weapon bits to paint and magnetize). Next up is my Adeptus army, then Imperial Guard and Marines. Saving the Eldar until I've had some practice with the other stuff.

I have made great mistakes. My wages came in, so I bought a Terminator Librarian, a Hive Guard and a Blood Raven Deathwatch Librarian on Ebay because they were in limited supply and super cheap. And I have a Terminator Librarian, honour guard, a broodlord, a couple Grey Knight characters, over half of Betrayal at Calth, still to paint.

As of now, I've received everything model-specific I'm going to allow for a bit (I'm not going to put a cap on paint, glue, and other hobby stuff because that's just insane).
Lucked out in a trade and scored probably twice as many Grey Knights as Marines that I got rid of...so there's that (something like 60ish metal Strikes and 40ish metal terminators, ugh)along with associated vehicles and bits.
Recently went to Cold Wars and scored a bunch of cheap stuff at the swap meet they have - and actually bought my Dindrenzi fleet for my Firestorm-Not-BFG fleet that I'm starting. Thankfully I stayed away from any other game systems this year, despite having the cash to get some more Warlord Romans, 15mm WW2 Americans, and being awfully tempted to start a Wing Hussar detachment for a game my dad is starting.
So...like I said, no more for a bit, hopefully until 2017.

OK, so, I think I managed to find a loophole.
I haven't bought ANYTHING for myself all year, aside from some tools from a windfall (totally wife approved).
However, I did start a new business selling hobby stuff, and am buying SO MUCH STUFF. I kinda hope the business fails so I get to keep it all
