Moral hangover for being a scrooge and knowing that the only other place to get it after that is ebay scalpers But, on the other hand, if you don't buy it right away - maybe you just don't really need it at all

The eBay scalpers are the big reason.
As for what happens, I will definitely be very sad for sure. Of course, if I buy it my life may be forfeit anyway if the wife finds out.
I bought AoD and the new psychic cards. My FLGS owner was all like 'feel free to keep looking around, you don't habe to pay for these now.' Sly bastard. I had reserved my stuff ahead of time so he already had it behind the counter when I got there.
But I didn't fall prey to his devious temptations! I did admire all the new SM box sets. But then just remembered how many terminators and marines I had still on their sprues.

And remember, the Dark Souls Boardgame Kickstarter launches tomorrow at 8PM GMT!
I would be careful with that....I'm pretty sure you die as soon as you pledge.

I am not going to purchase anything for any army/faction for any game until everything I have for that army/faction is painted. Furthermore I am not going to start any new army/faction for any game I already have, nor purchase anything for a new game. The above has one noticeable exception: proceeds from the sale of unpainted miniatures can be put into any product I want.
I'm far enough away from completing the painting of my miniatures for any one faction/army for any game that abusing it won't be an issue. Perhaps when I get through painting what I have for a given project, I'll need to amend the vow.
So where do we stand on using our now available hobby funds on paying for commission painters to help clear the backlog? Is that sensible, or cheating?
I think I have more than 10.000 unpainted miniatures although I have nevered dared to count them. 95% is unpainted and I am a really slow painter. But it has gotten worse since metals were replaced by finecast and cuts were start beeing made in the fantasy range, cause now I have had to search for all the "must haves" on Ebay and that is killing my wallet .. I do not dare to reveal how much money I have spent on Ebay the last year hehe..
So for the next few months, I will not buy any more miniatures (although gaming mats and stuff that does not require painting is okay right? Right?!)

That doesn't sound sensible in any capacity, but it's your quid matey

If the goal is painted miniatures, that will get you there. if the goal is spending less, it won't.

So what's the goal? Everyone will have their own.
I'm not bothered about the spending side, it's the sheer number of unpainted minis. So yeah, reducing that pile is the goal.

Welcome to Dakka.
What’s OK depends a lot on why you need to make the vow. If it’s because the pile of shame is getting ready to bury you in an avalanche, then mats, accessories, etc are fine. If it’s because the Better Half took notice of how much you are spending, then it’s not OK.
Well with todays news that there may be a Jr. In my future, the hobby budget just got real tight. I have 9 months to finish as much of my collection as I possibly can.

Whatever your reasons, stay the path!
Thank you for the reply!
My reason for taking this vow is primarily to reduce the ever increasing pile of grey plastic and the shame that accompanies it . Reducing my cash outflow is just a welcomed secondary effect of that. My better half might not be thrilled with every single purchase that I make, but we have a mutual respect for each others personal spendings, so that is not really an issue . I certainly wouldn't spend more money than I can afford/justify to her!
So far I haven't made a single purchase since I took the vow, so the struggle continues!

Congrats! Just keep your nose to the grindstone, and start whittling down that backlog.
So far this year, after vowing to only buy Archaon in the fall, I've bought
110 Lord of the Rings miniatures on clearance 1 Imperial Knight (split a Renegade box) 4 boxes of Harlequin flyers on clearance 1 Farseer Skyrunner (for my tournament army so that's fine) 1 Space Marine Commander on clearance 1 box of Centurions on clearance 3 minis from Deathwatch Overkill from a friend
and I've probably missed something... :( I've also backed a couple of board games but I don't count those since I don't need to paint them.

For no good reason I hopped on ebay to see how much Space Hulk was going for. I had always wanted to get the game, but missed out in 2014. Unlike the $150+ prices everywhere else, I found a seller with a buy it now price of $115. Goodbye, money. You will be missed. No more ebay browsing for me. My wife is going to murder me if I buy any more minis.
I was heavily tempted to buy 3-5 1/144 HG Gundam kits for some space mecha skirmishing using the Mekton Zeta RPG rules. I already have the space terrain from playing other games and the Mekton RPG rule from the 90s or whenever they came out.
I have some unpainted metal 40k stuff I should probably sell. It's been sitting in a box somewhere since I bought it at a local con's swap table in like 2005. Part of my vow is that I can sell unpainted to get new models, but that's it until my stuff is done.
Quite frankly, if you want to play Mekton Zeta, you would be better off using Jovian Chronicles minis. Or Gashapon Gundam minis in the tiny deck-sized boxes. Smaller is better, gives a sense of scale.
