Quite frankly, if you want to play Mekton Zeta, you would be better off using Jovian Chronicles minis. Or Gashapon Gundam minis in the tiny deck-sized boxes. Smaller is better, gives a sense of scale.

Jovian Chronicles? DP9 will never get any money from me ever again.

The Gashapon Gundams pretty terrible in quality. Often deformed and bent. If I wanted to deal with that, I'd get PVC from Mantic or Privateer.

Spectacle is so much more important for this sort of project than a sense of scale. I also have massive table space available at my local club events. And with how amazing Bandai's HG kits have gotten over the last 5 years, there's really nothing that compares to them (especially not from wargaming companies). They've hit a sweet spot in terms of build time/complexity and robustness of the final model.

I understand why you make the suggestions you do, but it's not the direction I want to go.

Using Turn A as the example simply reiterates that Turn A is crap, not that Gashapon is crap.

Case in point: The RX-78 looks perfectly fine for what it is. And it's not like that other Gashapon can't be perfectly acceptable for the price:

But if you want 5" Gundam instead of 3" Gundam, go for it! The HG kits are very nice. Just try to stay in budget.

I try to spend only $50 per month, paints and tools included. It's working well so far.

I had no idea it was that inconsistent. All the ones I've seen in person have been bendy and twisted.

Well, I sold some metal space marine scouts and an old attack bike (I think I originally bought them in 1997), so this project is a go. I'm shocked at what those go for these days. I posted on a local 40k group and now I've got enough for 3 HG Gundam kits. So I'm going to buy 2 and spend the rest on terrain materials to make more asteroid and space debris.

Somehow I think my vow isn't going to work if my unpainted collection ends up buying more hours worth of painting time than they themselves would represent.

Well, I guess its working in that 0 of my monthly income will go into my hobby for the next year or so.

Today makes since months since my last miniatures purchase. This wasn't really planned, it just sort of happened.

This is the longest I have gone without buying anything in ages.

I made it nearly a month without buying anything too massive...then Miniature Market had a (small) sale and I had a whole list of small things I'd been eyeing for completion's sake so I got them. My rationale was that MM has treated me well, and the opportunity to get shiny things (and some of them are indeed shiny) was too great to pass up. More than half the order by $ amount doesn't require assembly/painting so it wasn't a TOTAL failure since dice and terrain don't count...as much.

I also really want to pick up Imperial Knights Renegade because I've wanted a Warden since they were released but didn't like the price point; somehow buying two at roughly the same price + terrain seems better, even if it more than doubles the addition to Mount HIPS and my Paladin is still unassembled...

Then there's rumblings about the Bundeswehr coming to Team Yankee in the summer timeframe. *sigh* A month might be all the further I can make it...

Close to 3 months myself, and going strong. Although I do have to fill out my Bones 3 survey before July, and I'd like to add some of that sweet bonesium terrain...

Black Bases and Grey Plastic Forever:My quaint little hobby blog.

40k- The Kumunga Swarm (more)
Count Mortimer’s Private Security Force/Excavation Team (building)
Kabal of the Grieving Widow (less)

Plus other games- miniature and cardboard both.

I sold more miniatures. I don't think I'm going to buy anything with the money. Maybe some paints and supplies. I need more odorless thinner for oil washes.

Frostgrave

I bought 10 new mini's at a show at the weekend (Frostgrave: Giant rats, Boar, Snow Leopard , Ice Toad, Small Construct. Batman: Adam West Batman. GW: WD Sigmarine, and a resin boat). All have direct in-game uses though (except Batman, but that's for the wife so doesn't count).

In balance, I sold about 120 other mini's first I kept most of the money for non-hobby stuff.

"I'm not going to drink alcohol anymore....after I finish drinking this vineyard's entire cellar..."

I did get Imperial Knights Renegade in the meantime so it's not like I have that much room to talk. Gratz on getting the big boy though! That's my reward to myself for getting my collection painted (i.e. - I will never own one).

Remember, you've got an Eldar to do list to work through. Reward yourself after you build your web way portal and fully base your army

Spoiler:

It's looking awesome so far!

Fine. I’ll get back to work.

It’s taking all my self control not to whine "But Ashiraya got a Warlord, I just want a little Stormhawk!” I can adult. Sometimes, at least. I can’t use other people’s purchases to justify my own, and the piles don’t need to be even.

Although The Wife asked what I was laughing about when I was reading this thread last night. Hopefully planted some seeds for gift ideas. Which definitely don’t count for the non-purchasing vows.

Careful! That's a slippery slope. Sure it starts as "Honey, I'd really like this..." and soon it turns into "You should buy me <X> for...uh...a 'just because' gift" and then "Well, I'll just buy this for her to give to me...I'm being thoughtful!" and it all ends with you living under a bridge, snorting ground up sprue and trading illicit favors for gravity guns.

If I've seen it once, I've seen a thousand times....

I have sold way more stuff than I have bought, and I have been hobbying, so I feel like I've been good this year.
