For those who haven't seen him yet., Ulrik the Slayer. This model actually makes me want to play Space Wolves.

It is cool, I just hate his statue pose. He should be swinging that Crozius

Looking at the sprue pics, I’m looking forward to seeing some conversions done with him. Not that he’s bad as-is, I just like a little more hate and violence in my chaplains.

It's an awesome model. Personally I prefer the BA chaplain.

Still no plastic Rune Priest I see. Hopefully that will change.

I actually liked the old model a lot more. The helmet he's carrying looks a lot goofier than the old one!

Not a fan of it. The sculpt is well done, but the pose is too..haughty, too static, too "statuesque" for "The Slayer". Dude should be waving that beatstick in the air and crushing someone.

Also he should have his helmet on. He's not a character that was ever before portrayed without it AFAIK, and its weird to see his face, almost like Dredd without his helmet.

EDIT: besides, this is the most badass chaplain by far

A common misconception about a "badass" is how he acts. As a former bouncer, I can tell you that you don't need to worry about the guy walking around telling everyone how "hard" he is. You need to be worried about the guy who has been quietly watching him from the corner of the bar. The former is trying to prove he's a tough guy. The latter already knows he's a tough guy.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is not being about to have him wear the helmet. An extra arm and helm bit would have been cool and you know practical.

It's a neat enough little model. I would definitely give him a regular backpack, though, just so there isn't a total wolf skull overload. I wish the beatstick had a normal eagle, too, but oh well. Not like I play SW anyway.

He looks kinda over-the-top but in a way that isn't over-the-top for a space wolf. He's appropriately extravagant with his flowing cape and photo pose.

I'm also not a fan of the "Boss Pole", it's infringing on da Orks territory!

Technically a good model- it doesn't look overcrowded or just downright stupid like some modern models- but I still vastly prefer the new Interrogator Chaplain. Best model to come out for Space Marines in years.

I'm not impressed TBH. The sculpting is nice but he just looks to regal and posing for a model depicting the subject in combat, let alone a Space Wolf , the freudianly placed the wolf tail just looks completely ridiculous too. It's an alright model still miles better than the Wulfen from the same release, just for a £4.00 price point, not £18.50

Yup. Ulrik needs to get in a fight with these guys. Such a battle will be told for centuries.

Though, personally I love the model with one exception. The head. Ulrik has always been described as having a "thick mane" of white hair. The new mini is somewhat hirsutally challenged on top.

The plastics are more expensive than the fine casts.

Yeah, even though I love the model (head nonwithstanding) I'm gonna be reluctant to part with some cash, esp. as I don't really play 40k anymore. Going to wait for someone to buy this for me or if I come into some cash.

GW's been under the impression that plastics are more valuable than metals or finecast for some time now. Not that I know much about the manufacturing costs for differant material, but when every single other miniatures company has lowered prices when they converted from resin/metal to plastic... that's a pretty good sign they're wrong.

But, you see, plastics are more valuable because they're easier to work with!

The nice thing is, the head is a standard head (looks like), so it should be possible to replace if that's your issue. It would be a bit harder to replace the hand holding the helm, as it's a non-standard attachment, but the bare head itself is an easy fix. The backpack is separate, and standard, so that's replaceable, too. The crozius hand is separate, so I think it would be possible to add different hands/weapons pretty easily.

For a monopose model, it has a pretty good set of options for changing it up. Not perfect, but not too bad either.

THAT's a good mini.

Sorry, but old man with a cane doesn't hold a candle to either the Blood Angels Jump Pack Chaplain or Dark Angels Interrorgator-Chaplain. Grimaldus is also looks great. So does Astorath. Even Ulrik the Slayer looks better than the Old Man with a Cane.

I'm not impressed with him either. The model is nice, but nothing out of the ordinary, and the price tag is exhorbitant.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

The exorbitant price is pretty much unavoidable. Mould costs for injection moulded plastic are astronomical and all up front, the reason they used to use metal/resin for characters was because the limited sales didn't make it economically feasible to produce them in plastic. It still isn't, but after the failure of finecast they have a choice between aditting they screwed up and switching back to metal, or switching to plastic which they can sell to the shareholders as 'progress', so we get stuck with plastic characters and the exorbitant price necessary to make them profitable.

Personally I think he's hands down one of the best miniatures GW has ever produced (My list of favourites includes the likes of the 1st edition Chaos Dreadnought - I'm no rabid fanboi), but I agree it does have fluff issues - Chaplains are meant to be motivators not strategists, so he doesn't really have a need to pause and survey the battlefield like that, and the skull helmet is supposed to represent the God-Emperor himself, so shouldn't be removed in battle to show his own face.

In Ulrik's case the skull helm is different than other Chaplins. He wears the Wolf Helm of Russ. Fashioned by the Emperor himself and given to Russ as a gift. It's quite the arcane artifact, and doesn't have the same stigma to it that other Chaplin helms do. However, this could just be an oversite as GW isn't exactly the king of consistency.

I love this model. However, I will probably never get one. $30.00 is just insulting. If it was $20.00, I'd be the first to put my money on the table, but the line must be drawn and I wont feed into GW's greed.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:
