It is cool, I just hate his statue pose. He should be swinging that Crozius

i notice people ALWAYS complain about something lol. i think its a great sculpt but yes its not an "action pose"

My only complaint is the head, he looks like a fantasy imperial royalty character, not a grizzled space wolf veteran.

Damnit, now I want to get a nice feathered hat to put on him and paint him a nice purple color.

I love Ulrik's rules and his awesome wolf skull helmet but the new pose is sorta meh. I prefer my custom kitbash Ulrik based on the older model.

The exorbitant price is pretty much unavoidable. Mould costs for injection moulded plastic are astronomical and all up front, the reason they used to use metal/resin for characters was because the limited sales didn't make it economically feasible to produce them in plastic. It still isn't, but after the failure of finecast they have a choice between aditting they screwed up and switching back to metal, or switching to plastic which they can sell to the shareholders as 'progress', so we get stuck with plastic characters and the exorbitant price necessary to make them.

It's completely avoidable. The kits are so small (one single sprue the size of a large cigarettes packet) that the mould would cost only £8000 to make, which is chump change compared a company their size (even working in this niche) is going to make selling the product if adding transport and other costs on. They're no reason for such blatant customer abuse other than Game$ Work$hop can.

Hes growing on me but I agree his pose is a bit staic overall.
And I still would have preferred the helmet on.

I prefer the static pose. Dynamic poses on character models are over rated to me, dynamic is more what I want on my squad leaders to set them aside from the regular infantry. When it comes to the big name characters I prefer regal, commanding, imposing, etcto "madly swinging weapon at invisible enemy".

That said, I'm not sure I like the head yet. I'd be tempted to convert the Wolf Helm on to his head, but then I'm not sure what I'd do with the left arm.

In general I don't like big symbols sticking out of the top of backpacks so I'd probably hack that off too.

I also don't like how thick the cape is. It would have been nice if they'd tapered it down to a sharp edge instead of having the thick edge of nothingness.

I actually like it. If too many models have action poses, an army as a whole gets oversaturated with it which totally takes the impact of the dynamic poses away. I like a mixture of resting and action poses on my minis, it makes them stand out more.
Besides that, I think that in this case, the dignified pose really fits the miniature and the character.
In fact, I think this is one of my favourite GW minis ever. They totally nailed it imo.

It's hard to say what Ulrik "should" be. He's "The Slayer" and is noted as being extremely aggressive, so an actiony pose wouldn't be terrible. But he's also the oldest living Space Wolf, he must be around the 1000 year mark, so I picture him as being cool and calculated in his aggression rather than recklessly aggressive.

He's $50 in Australia, I remember buying the old Ulrik, the metal one, for $12 as a kid.

$50 for a single small sprue is insane. At $20-30 I probably would have bought him as a no-brainer, At $50 I'm probably not going to buy him at all, I'll put him on my list which will mean he won't get bought until after I've painted most my other Space Wolf stuff which will probably be never

Especially given things like the stupidly thick cape. Really GW, you're charging $50 for a model and can't even make the cape properly?

Personally I agree. He looks like a shepherd watching his flock in battle. I can imagine him, the calm center of a storm surrounded by grey hunters and blood claws as the deamons close in around them, waiting to lift his weapon and dawn his helm in the final moment of need to show he does not fear the enemy.

I remember I used to joke that the characters would be $30. Of course, at the time I was just exaggerating based on the increasing prices of the plastic single-pose miniatures, but now they actually ARE that much! I can only see the prices for each new release going up a few bucks every half year at this rate. $40 terminator captains in the future perhaps? "Hey now, you're not being fair, it costs a lot for those single molds!"

But don't take my word for it- you can get all FOUR Space Marine Masters for only $3 more than this ONE guy!

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Space-Marine-Masters-of-the-Chapter

EDIT: I also remember when the Space Marine Captain was $15, and of course he was fully customizable with a bunch of extra bits!

EDIT EDIT: just to be clear, I like the model. His price is just insane.

What's left of Cadia

I actually really like the new model. The price for him sucks, but if I played Space Wolves (which now I'm tempted to do at some point) I would certainly pick up the model for my army (even if I just used him as a regular Wolf Priest)

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."

The Wolf Priests are the ones who choose new aspirants. looking at that mini, he's watching over his children. It's a commanding pose, not a fighting pose. I like it.

I like the old one better. For me this is another in a long line of SW releases that have badly missed the mark, going back to TWC. I'm just glad I sold my SW on eBay before the crane kicking twilight werewolves came out.
