The new CEO has been mixed so far for me, as the new direction of GW had some good points (AdMech Armies, Getting Started bundles, and Battle for Vedros) and some horrible down points (most of the new character clampacks, increasingly more expensive single kits, and sloppy rule designed very visibly to sell models).

However the entire line of CSM is basically where the Dark Eldar were before their 5th edition codex. It's gonna take more than just one or two weeks of release for them to catch up, and would probably entail a near-complete overhaul of the infantry range (basically the only thing usable right now are the Raptors. That's it. Even the Terminators are showing their age since you don't have anywhere close to enough equipment for them).

As a stop gap I can only suggest what I've done, which is look to third parties and loyalist kits, the bits on any SM kit are largely plug and play with one another. Of course, as I'm doing Emperor's Children immediately post-fall, lots of Aquilas all over the shop is perfectly appropriate.

Otherwise, Evil Craft, Spellcrow, and , for vehicles, Blood and Skulls Industry on eBay and The Dark Works are all worth your time.

Rules wise, Imperial Armour 13 is your friend if you're in a FW permissive gaming environment, but I've essentially gone into a 40K hiatus until/unless something changes, so it's mainly just the painting and modelling I'm focusing on right now.

Theres a good chance that much of the Chaos Marine model range will be updated upon the release of the next codex, which is probably one of the main reasons it remains one of the only 6th edition codexes not to be updated to 7.5 and at this point the second longest wait between updates (baring of course Sisters of Battle).

It will happen eventually, and I have a feeling like they will make a BIG deal out of it. Probably launch a campaign and all that other jazz.

Well I'm eagerly awaiting that then lol. Though it sucks since I already have a large amount of models lol

Like I said, just use Loyalist rules for now. Much more toys and rules to fiddle with.

I boldly predict Chaos' 7th Codex will be followed by Age of Calgar on the following Monday bank holiday with the surprise GW party containing John Kirby being shot out of a naval cannon clutching copies of Rogue trader.

And Chaos' 7th codex will comtain daemon primarchs, op as hell formations. Pre order the limited 666 run and get a Chaos Mutation from Matt Ward as a bonus.

Yeh it will be a big deal when they finally do it. Just look at all the hoopla over SW. How many of us would instantly drop a few hundred bucks on a new CSM army if a competitive Codex and new models were released.

Sad Panda says we'll get some Tzeentch stuff, but CSM codex 2017 at the earliest, IIRC.

 Azreal13 wrote:
No, the reason it's taking so long is because Chaos sells. The CSM Tac Squad was still in their list of 2015's best sellers, despite the Codex being wonky and the whole range being widely acknowledged as being out of date.

Source for this? I'd love to see the others. I don't doubt you, I'm just curious.

The source is GW themselves. Warhammer app I believe.

Besides, while aesthetically the CSM kit does, IMO, really show its age, especially in comparison to how they moved that aesthetic on with DV, and what third parties likes Spellcrow and Evil Craft are doing, in terms of its technical chops it still stacks up quite well, there's a good variety of bits and options, and being plastic and cross compatible makes kitbashes, conversions and reposes as straightforward as it can get.

Evil Craft has some lovely models, but the prices are crazy too.

I think the basic CSM kit has aged quite decently considering how old it is (and how limited the plastic technology was back then). The models themselves are quite solid, as long as my taste is concerned, although the kit as a whole really falls short of options. Of course, the metal ranges of the 1st and 2nd edition were much better. It's a bit disheartening that the best CSM models GW has ever produced are from like 25 years ago

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

I've never seen them but I can understand. I really like the current csm tact squad. The models look really nice, maybe a little "too" busy but it's all good. I was looking at getting the autocannon bits from evil craft to make my havok squad, but I just went with spare heavy bolters. Maybe if I can find some round plastic stock or something I can make a longer barrel and call it an autocannon.

You can get Autocannons from FW.

They look SUPER nice though. I hate bling on my Marines as a whole, though.
