So is it true that 25mm bases are being replaced with 32mm? If so, do I have to rebase my army? I actually do like the new bases, the old were just too damn small but at the same time, I'm really unsure if I wanna rebase my army

GWs official answer when asks has been do what ever you want. As a general rule base a model with what came in the box.

They seem to be gradually switching over. As to updating your current, that's entirely up to you. I'm glad because I've been giving infantry 32mm resin bases over 25mm since they started the update with the marines.

I haven't bought new regular Chaos Marine squads in a while but does anyone know if they have been repackaged?

Especially my older models, I think I'm gonna leave them alone. I just wanted to be sure it was legal before I did anything rash

IIRC, only the Berserkers have been moved over to the new 32's.
It's definitely worth putting any Marine though onto the 32's. Not only for balancing issues, but they just look better without their feet extending over the lip of the smaller 25's.

I highly doubt that *everything* will move over the 32's though... Models like Eldar, Guard, etc... just look absolutely lost on the larger size.

And no, you don't have to re-base a thing if you really don't want to. As long as your models are based on the bases they came with, or larger, you're fine. The only rule that's ever existed in regards to bases is that you can't go to a smaller base, as it's considered a form of modeling for advantage. (and in a select few cases, certain characters came with rules stipulating that you couldn't go for a larger base either, due to particular special abilities that involved enemies being in base-to-base contact)

Myself for example, there's no way in the Seven Hells that anyone is forcing me to re-base my Pink Horrors! If I even wanted to try it, those little ********* would instantly snap at the ankles!
My converted Bloodletters though? Those guys are definitely getting re-based, alongside my Flamers of Tzeentch!

Yea man, I bought Bloodletters and they have 32s now. That's how I was made aware of the change in the first place.

Models do look so much cooler on them so while nobody is forcing you to base/rebase them I believe it is worth doing for the aesthetic alone, even models like haemonculus look far superior on them.

Well, I'm basing all the new models bought on 32mm bases. Looks definitely much better. The BA Tacticals were the first GW released with 32mm bases. After this, the Berzerkers and the miniatures in the AoS starter box were on 32mm bases.

My Heresy Marines will be on 32mm bases, as that's what the Betrayal at Calth Marines are on. My Astral Claws are all on 25mm bases, and I can't be bothered re-basing.

I've also put a few other models on 32mm bases where they don't fit on 25mm; Inquisitor Coteaz, the Daemonhunter Inquisitor with combi-weapon and the Jokaero, for example. Orks might look better on 32mm bases than on 25mm ones, but I don't have an Ork army, so that's not an issue.

Bear in mind, you can get conversion rings that will convert your old 25 mm bases to 32 mm bases with a little bit of glue. You might then want to add basing to the new ring, but you don't have to. Here's an example of my Deathwatch stuff I painted up last year using some resin 25mm bases. I just added the basing rings to get them to 32mm without having to break them off of the bases I'd bought and already painted up.

I personally bought these:

http://eccentricminiatures.com/adapterrings.html

They work very well. One pack ($3.00) gets you three sprues of four base adapters, so you get 12 adapters for $3.00, enough to take care of a squad and have a couple left over for characters/HQ's, etc.

Highly recommend picking some up, lets you keep your models existing bases (be they custom or what-have-you) and still have the larger base for stability and general visual effect.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Take it easy.

How snug is that fit, though? The bevel on GW bases has changed over the years, after all.

They fit very snugly on the custom resin bases I used them on. They're designed to fit 'current' GW beveled bases and the bases themselves (at least the ones I purchased, the second link I posted) have an identical amount of beveling to standard GW bases as well, both 25mm and the new 32mm as well.

Because the resin bases I was using are somewhat imperfect, some of them fit a little differently and required a little extra super glue/gap filling glue to set correctly, but on a plastic GW base, you should be able to fit it perfectly with no issue.

Hopefully that helps clear things up.

Take it easy.

I will say, Marines look a lot more imposing on the 32mm base. I have the Calth PA marines and one of the newer Tact Squads, with 25mm bases, and despite being equally detailed, and the Mk7 marines having all the gizmos and fancy parts attached, the Mk4 just look bigger and more imposing, more Marine, that the others.

The only bad things about the 32mm bases is that they are more difficult to fit in buildings and narrow terrain, and you can't place units as closely together as with 25mm bases.
It does look great for Marines though. Definitely going to do my new Iron Warriors all on 32mm.

feth replacing three years of 25mm.
I deliberately buy 25mm but basing details mean no foot overhang.

Vanguards are on 32 because they won't balance otherwise

I'm surprised chaos marines haven't been moved over en masse to 32mm.

As for the secret weapon base extenders- I got 2 packs of 10 to rebase metal marines- they need a little bit of a trim or to be re-heated and bent into a tighter circle. Apart from that they're minimal fuss to update to 32mm (and saves a pretty penny on buying 32mm's)

This is where I'd put my signature...If I had one!

It's weird that GW chose to pick the old Berzerkers over the new Raptors for the new bases. They do look good on older models too.
