Subject: Is Deathwatch Overkill going to be like Betrayal at Calth as far as miniatures go?

Essentially, are the miniatures that come with Deathwatch Overkill going to be like the ones that came with Betrayal at Calth (on sprue, unpainted, etc.)? If so, can the Genestealers be used with a regular 40K Tyranid Army? Also, will there be a way to play Deathwatch in 40K now as a small army or maybe Allies? If so, does anyone have any idea what codex should be used for the Deathwatch models?
Thanks
SG

Yes, they're just normal minis, same as everything else you buy from GW.
Yes, you could easily use the genestealers (and probably their hybrids too) as genestealers from the main 'Nid book (though it's my understanding that they'll get their own special rules in the white dwarf coming out on Saturday the 5th of March.
Deathwatch has already had their formations release in the current white dwarf, you can either take their crappy formation or you can take them as crappy allies (but only ever allies since they only have 1 troops choice and it's unique).
Their stats are the same as a normal sternguard (+/- wargear), but if you want their individual rules, grab the white dwarf that came out this week. You could totally use them as sternguard with the white scar being a biker sarge and the salamander being a termie with a heavy flamer, though to use them all as a single chapter would require some attacking with a file.

The White Dwarf this week apparently came with the rules, with GS Cult rules coming next week.
From the leaked pics of the models I've seen so far, yes they're the usual grey plastic we've come to know and love.
Value-wise, for canadians, it's 200 dollars for 50 models, which is pretty good all things considered. I'm comfortable paying 4 bucks a model, especially when one of them is the badass Patriarch and we have another 4 Ogryn-level models.

Also, if you wanna field the Deathwatch as a standalone force, you can always supplement them with First Company Taskforces from the main SM dex. Those are basically extensions of Kill Team Cassius. And of course there's always Inquisitors.

All this said, where can I find the fluff on Deathwatch? I know there are some books available on Black Library, but they seem to be more based on missions and characters after they have already been formed. What about the events that lead the Inquisition to meet and create the Deathwatch? Maybe their first mission or training together... or how they chose the candidates to join.
Thanks

I test demo it and realize we played the game wrong.
Number 1, although you are on rafters, you cant shoot thru walls. I was shooting thru walls essentially and won super easy.
Number 2, Broken floor gaps are the only place you can jump from not any tiles adj. seperated by solid black. lines.
Number 3, the Marine's second shooting phase is overkill. It needs to be overwatch hitting on 6s.
Number 4, You can block enemy spawn points...its too hilarious!

I'm actually going off of old Chapter Approved books I had from way back in the time abyss. Those had the greatest amount of fluff than anything else short of Black Gobbo and Old White Dwarf hobby articles.
There is the Deathwatch RPG and a few books featuring them, so there's that. Inquisition too should have a few considering they're the militant arm of Ordo Xenos.

Does that mean the GW playthrough video is wrong? They didn't seem to have walls and don't think they hit on sixes for the 2nd shooting phase

It would be interesting if that was true...not because GW bungled their own product, but because it did feel odd to me that it was just an open shooting range on the mission that they played, and it also seemed like the Cult was outmatched for most of the mission.

We test played it last night in store on mission 1.
There are no restrictions for shooting other then range. So you can shoot through your sides models. The Broodcult player really needs to play strategically with where they place their ambushes. They are totally out gunned by the space marines since the space marines can get 2 attack phases. Marines also have 2 wounds, but can heal if they don't attack, so if the Broodcult doesn't kill the model on their attack phase, the marine can simply not attack and heal up in the 2nd marine attack phase.
Gambits are what give the Broodcult player the advantage since they can manipulate the game to their benefit.
Models are very well done. Best part is that the Librarian is a Blood Raven. They finally have a model.2

Super excited about my Blood Ravens finally getting an official model on the tabletop! Maybe we'll also get a mention/rules in an upcoming campaign book. Not holding my breath for it, but a Magpie can dream.
