So I am going to add a librarian into my Crimson Fists army. I am thinking of giving him a Force Sword. However, GW no longer makes the Librarian with Force Sword. I have a couple different options. One is to get the Blood Ravens Librarian from Deathwatch Overkill and remove all of the DW and Blood Ravens iconography from him. This is probably the cheapest option, and I do really like the model for him. The other option is to get the clampack Librarian model and replace the staff arms with a sword and bolt pistol. The issue I have with this is that I really like the sword to have runes on it. This would require additional modeling on the figure. I could also locate a 3rd party sword with runes.

What should I do?

You could ebay the original if you liked him.

The Dark Vengeance model has a sword and robes and would be easier to mod off a few DA symbols than replace his whole left arm, surely?

Get a box of GK power armor guys. Make 5 librarians.

I have modified a lot of the Dark Vengeance stuff, but I think the Librarian is beyond what I am comfortable with. The robes have Dark Angel regalia molded on them. Taking stuff like a chapter emblem off a shoulder pad is one thing, scraping away "fabric" is another.

The most recent Finecast Librarian with sword is pretty good, but I am actually having a hard time locating him. I also have had bad experiences with Finecast. This applied double for Ezekiel due to Finecast AND Dark Angels molding.

Grey Knights are certainly an option, but they would require even more modifying than any of the other models.

I am leaning toward just taking the Blood Ravens Librarian and replacing the left arm and both shoulder pauldrons. Should be easy enough. It also happens to be one of the easiest to find.

Just kitbash him.

All you really need is a paintjob and/or weapon that will differentiate him from any other Sergeant or HQ.

I am going to do just that. The DW Librarian will be the base, and I will scrape off the Blood Raven to make room for Imperial Fists regalia (YAY Etched Brass!). The biggest offender is the left leg. All of that winged blood drop is going to go, or I am going to cut away most of it and place an etched brass Fist emblem in the blood drop's spot.

I do like that he is screaming, because I am going to be giving him Telepathy, so Psychic Shriek.

I like my HQs to have a little more definition than that. To me Librarians are more than just bright blue Marines. I like them having lots of books and stuff on their armor. They also should have runes on their weapons. Psychic Hoods are a must too, but they aren't all that easy to make.

Just give him a blank pad. The pad is separate from the sword arm. The bolt pistol arm has the DW pad attached though.

Oh no, the issue isn't the Right Arm pad. That is going into the bits box for eventual fitting on a different body to make Gabriel Angelos. The left arm is easy enough to deal with since it is completely separate from the body. I am talking about the left leg, which has a winged blood drop on the greave. Remolding that will take a little effort, but I have done similar stuff before like when I converted the Dark Vengeance Terminators (the Sergeant had a big angel on his greave, scraping it off was a pain, but it looks great now).

One last option I hadn't considered before was to get Sevrin Loth somehow and convert him. Certainly the most expensive option, but he does have a very cool looking miniature. I love the Mk IV armor and whatnot, but he only comes with his Honour Guard, which I have no use for.

Buy the Empire Wizards box. You have plenty of Fiddly bits to kitbash up Libarians.

I ended up ordering the Deathwatch Librarian. $17.50 USD isn't bad. He seems to be the best option for what I want to do. Cutting away blood drops shouldn't be too difficult.

Invisibility on a squad of 7 Honour Guard, Pedro Kantor, and a Librarian here I come.

Not all the GK bits are laden with their iconography. And frankly, a book and sword motif is not that out of place on a librarian. I’ve made 3 librarians out of the box so far.

Yeah, the issue for me is that they use a different armor mk and whatnot. They would have some nice force weapons and would come with psychic hoods. Still happy with the choice I made. Maybe if I make a Librarian Conclave I will get some GK.
