Well even in your scenario there will be fans of the ponies because let's face it, ponies are popular in nerd culture these days.

We know their constructs still exist in story. We know Settra was doing something in the last End Times book. Who's to say their models aren't going to be updated? The Skeleton Riders, replaced by living Nehekharans or something.
Yeah, but say you'd spent $1,000 on a Tomb Kings army only to have them completely removed from the game then a new story for your army was created and new models created to go along with the fluff. Would you be willing to put your $1,000 army aside knowing you'd never be able to play it again and spend another $1,000+ on a new army of new models? That's asking A LOT! As much as I LOVE the hobby side of Warhammer, if that happened to me, I'd probably just give it all up.

Wow, that will make a very fine new statue to replace the sigmarine in front of GW. Nice work.

Well, the tropes wiki did point this little tidbit out.

"Throw the Tomb Kings Fans a Bone: Neferata resides in a part of the realm of Shyish that she has renamed Nulahmia, referencing the city of Nehekhara called Lahmia that was destroyed along with the rest of the nation and its resident faction."

So, that's what remains of the tomb kings. Always a chance for that to grow into something more....

Tomb Kings was my first and only WHFB army. It is kind of a bummer.

Still playable in AoS and in previous editions of WFB, though.

Also playable in 9th and KoW as well. So your money hasn't been wasted.

One army compatible with four (+) games, sounds like a good reason to not be bummed.

That may be. But coming by new units may be kinda hard unless they get some sort of re-release.

If you already have an army of them though, you shouldn't need any more models.

You know, I keep telling myself that with my 40k army but it never seems to be true and that army just keeps growing.

Oh, eight +, easily. Not even counting any other editions of WFB.

Seriously, the wargaming hobby reveals a lot more facets when you drop the Alan Merrett Method.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I am one of those people with around 1000 Euro of Khemri,...
Which i still have to paint !!
I will not sell them. I love the models and will paint them one day. But there is not rush now... ;-)

But it's a bigger problem. I have all WHFB armies (except elves) and i will just have to wait which ones will still exist and which not.
And then i also have to wait if AoS becomes a game that is actually played OR WHFB rules comes back with AoS models OR i have to get into another game system and use the WHFB models.
