As someone who loves the Blood Ravens, I was ecstatic when I saw the librarian model and just ordered it on impulse due to it being an actual blood ravens related model. I was watching the frontline gaming stream thing on twitch, and someone said the Deathwatch count as their own faction and need to be deployed as allies instead of in an army. Is this true? Would it not work to include Jansus in my list in a conclave formation with a space marine army?

If you want to use his rules specifically in the deathwatch, then yes, you need to field him with that faction.

But you could field him as a normal librarian with zero problems. Just follow the rules in your codex. The big thing is he won’t have the special ammo for his bolt pistol.

The new models are Deathwatch Faction and can only be included in Deathwatch Formations and Detachments. The Blood Ravens Librarian can't be taken in a Librarius Conclave Formation as that requires Space Marines Faction models/units. The Librarian is a Deathwatch Faction unit. You'll need to take the big Formation that has all of the Deathwatch models or an Allied Detachment that has some of them. You could also just go Unbound.

Guess I can just use him as a unique librarian model in the meantime then. Thanks for the info

My FLGS house ruled that the characters can be used in appropriate formations (I'll be using Natorian in my Blood Ravens LC as well), but that is 100% house rule. RAW, you could use the model as a generic Librarian, but you wouldn't get the special ammo (which is really the main difference). One of the other guys is going to use Branatar as a Terminator Sergeant in his Salamanders.

He's just a librarian with a specific loadout IIRC.

You could just buy the same upgrades as he comes with and roll Biomancy and he'd be the same.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Not quite the same due to being a different faction.

-They are a faction army in its own rights and there is no rules that they have to be an ally
Their "army book" is this free PDF https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Deathwatch/40k-rules-deathwatch-en.pdf

It contains the following options.that are all labled as unique
2 HQ's
1 Troop
3 Elites
1 fast

And one big formation to bundle it all

So what does this mean. do to the "unique" rule you can't have multiple of the same units.
This is kinda limiting right now. I expect an paid army book soon with generic options.

Until this is how you can field them in an battle forged army
- can't fit it in a CAD -> Only 1 troop choice and you cant field duplicates of it.
- You can use the formation -> This would result in an 535 points army. Not that this can be your primary detachment.
- You can fit them into a Allied detachment ( the one in the rulebook ) -> 1 HQ + 1 Troop + some other tings you have that

The way to use it as a stand alone army would be.
-> Max 535 point or house rule that the unique option doesn't exist and just make a nice army by spamming the units.

The other option would be to use that 535 point army and expand it with allied in (Stern guard / vanguard) veteran formations from all kinds of marine chapters. This is actually not such a bad choice until the full codex comes out since it perfectly fits the army & fluff.

Formations you might like
-Ravenhawk Assault Group ( you can use any codex chapter marines)
1 setern quard squad 1 dread 1 storm raven

-Shadow Force ( you can use any codex chapter marines)
Captain, landspeeder, sternguard, vanguard

-Shadowstrike Kill Team( you can use any codex chapter marines)
2-4 scout squads, 1-3 vanguard squads.

- Saint Tylus Battle Force ( from the tyrannic war veteran datasleet ultra marines )
Named HQ 1+ tyrannic war veterans (sort of sternguards) 0-6 flying transports : D
These things even have special rules vs Tyranids how cool is that

-Archangels Orbital Intervention Force
3 squads BA terminators

-Archangels Sanguine Wing
BA 2x10 Vanguard + 2x10 Sternguard in stormravens

-Wolf Guardd Void Claws
5 Space wolves terminators

- Cypher

This would give you enough options to build a really cool army.

No this would not work, unless you use it as a count as librarian or house rule it. It is a model of a different faction and the model isn't named "librarian" but "Jansus". In the same way you can't use FW named models like Loth in that formation.
