Has anyone tried pairing Maugan Ra with some Death Jesters?
Using a Masque primary and CAD w/Maugan Ra

The 2+ armor save on Maugan Ra backed by flip belts 2+ look out sir to transfer to Death Jesters and/or Troupe for a 5+ invul if it's ap2 etc.

A bit expensive points wise but quinns are used to that and it's a whole lot of fun in 1 unit if they're not fearless.

Why would you want to?

Maugan Ra is basically a garbage fire. A unit of Death Jesters is pretty close to that as well.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

They are single shot Hit on 2+ wound on 2+ with strength5 ap4 small blasts on casualties.(Maugan Ra 36in range fires twice with split fire, rerolls extended ballistic table) Add on the moral tests for fall back and that's a whole lot of hurt and laughs coming from 1 unit
instead of a Solo Death Jester with only a 5+ invul either forced to stay with a troupe/shadowseer for survivability or remain solo
Edit: Yes I'm aware of the 3 shot mode too, but I don't find myself using it too often. I do use it. Also with the combined shots from a unit of D.J.s you are more likely to roll that 6 to wound making it AP2

I should of added a note that I Play Harlequin Primary always. I've done really well with Solo Harlequin Army. The concept for Maugan Ra came when I was researching CADs to add to either a Masque or Cegorach's Revenge. A masque I would always take 6 Shadowseers but with C.R. you kind of have to find a use for the 3 Death Jesters... adding A 2+armor save to the front of that unit (and maybe a shadowseer veil) increases their survivability while not forcing D.J.s to join a Troupe to be viable.

The problem I see with most harlequin armies is they go in expecting to win, instead of going in to cause the most laughs and headaches. Focusing on the later has allowed me to table Tau, Tyranids, I.G., Eldar and win multiple games against S.M., Chaos, Orks. I've only been tabled twice so far and that was mainly from lack of knowing the opponents army and specials.... like 2+ non stop jinking Dark Angels with overpowered twinlinked everything but even they walked away with a headache.

Death jesters can also shot a regular shuricannon. It's better than 1 shot most of the time.

Well if he's the Warlord, he's giving Splitfire.

At the very least that's kinda worth noting.

Even if he is not, Whirlwind of Death allows him to fire his weapon a second time on a different targer.

I actually fielded Maugan Ra in a local tournament recently. I did it because I like the character and I thought I did not field him often enough. Also, it was a way of slightly gimping myself instead of taking a cheaper HQ and add a Hornet in.

Maugan Ra made his points back in every game munching on Space Marines, Necrons and Khorne demonkin + bikers.

I think he is a very expensive addition to the Death Jesters, not sure I would play him that way but if you do...He will not disappoint.

Yeah I tossed that in at the end of one of the paragraphs in a response to someone. I normally only use the 3 shots mode against S.M. for higher chance of ap2, vehicles with weaker av or if I really need to make sure something dies to take the fall back test

Yeah I like him alot because of how he just fits into the Harlequin theme.... this dude might as well just be a Harlequin Death Jester HQ so it's not really about points munching as much as it is about coolness and more HAHA's.
I'm trying to find ways to move away from having solo death Jesters who tend to give up first blood way too often (circumstantial) or having to attach them to a troupe and be forced to move them closer then I'd like just to survive.
Using Maugan Ra in a Cegorach's Revenge can help give the D.J.s some options as well as grabbing the eldar allies I was looking to field as well.
I know there's other better HQs but we all know an army/unit is only as good as how you play it.
