So it seems like, beyond the original Start Collecting Sets, every time an army is updated, GW releases a Start Collecting Set alongside them.

This was true for Space Wolves (SM Commander, Wolf Pack, and Thunderwolf Cavalry) and Orks (Painboy, Nobz, Boyz, and Deff Dread). So of the remaining armies that don't have a Start Collecting, what would you put in them? I have a few ideas.

Dark Angels (SM Commander, Tactical Squad with Dark Angels Upgrade Kit, Ravenwing Bike Squad)
Blood Angels (Blood Angels Jump Pack Chaplain, Blood Angels Tactical Squad, Death Company)
Grey Knights (SM Terminator Librarian, Grey Knights Terminators, Grey Knights Strike Squad)
Dark Eldar (Archon, Kalabite Warriors, Reavers)
Eldar (Windrider Seer, Wind Riders, Dire Avengers)
Chaos (Aspiring Champion, Chaos Space Marines, Raptors)

What else am I forgetting?

There's no way they could put a Penitent Engine in a start collecting box, it's just way to hard to build. it would have to be a squad of Seraphim or something that doesn't require an engineering degree to put together without falling apart.

think of the kids showing up to GW with their armies in tupperware boxes without even the slightest hint of bubblewrap or packing material. the kid shows up, opens up the box and finds his peni in a dozen bits then promptly tears up in store.

That Chaos one is missing an HQ, it'd probably be a Terminator Lord or one with a Jump Pack. I wouldn't be surprised if it had Warp Talons, too, and the box formation is what finally lets them assault from deep strike.

Some of the coolest things about the start collecting boxes are the formations that are included within. So for the Orks, the contents are fairly meh, but the formation is actually pretty cool.

For Dark Eldar, they should go with some things that would fit with both the main book and the supplement.
(Homonculus, kabalite warriors, wracks, Talos)
Units in this formation may re-roll failed FNP rolls and they treat Power from Pain as if the game turn were 1 higher.

I like your suggestions, although a trend I've noticed is that all boxes have a relatively expensive vehicle. So for Chaos, a Helbrute?

They've also been doing walkers.
Dreadnought, Deff Dread, Triarch, Dune Crawler.

That's why I think the Talos fits that theme. Same size

For Chaos Marines I could totally see a Chaos Lord, some Marines, maybe 5 Cultists and a Helbrute/Defiler.

The AoS daemon ones work well. Just need one for Tzeentch and Slaanesh.

Tzeentch: Chariot, Screamers, Horrors and Flamers. Value: $120

Slaanesh: Exalted Chariot, Daemonettes, Seekers. Value: $120

Khorne and Nurgle are $130 and $135, respectively.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

How many Windriders would you put in the Eldar box? A Jetseer with 3 Windriders and 5 Dire avengers is not many units for such a high price. I think it would be more along the lines of War Walker, Farseer, 10 Guardians, and something else in plastic. I would have liked to see an elite or a fast attack sqaud in there but they are all failcast. Scorpions seem like they could fit the bill to put a melee unit in there.

Welll, it's not unheard of for these boxes to include a limited release model.

I could see the Chaos one getting a unique Lord.

What I'd love to see for Chaos Marines: Termie Lord/Sorc + new plastic Thousand Sons + 10 Cultists + Helbrute.

What we'll probably get because... "feth Chaos": Aspiring Champ + 8 Berserkers + Rhino + 10 Cultists.

What Tzeentch should get: Herald + 10 Horrors + 3 Flamers + 3 Screamers + Burning Chariot. (note: tzherald is built out of the Burny Chariot kit, or else you can get a Tzherald Chariot + Exalted Flamer instead!)

For Slaanesh: Herald on Exalted Chariot + 10 Daemonettes + 5 Seekers.

Start Collecting Chaos is a fairly apt description of my miniatures/bits collection.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

A Troupe, Shadowseer, two Skyweavers and a Starweaver would be about spot on IMO. Give the formation Rising Crescendo and Emissary of Cegorach and we're rolling.

Then you basically make a mono-Harlie army with one Heroes Path Formation and load the rest of it with as many of these formations as you can squeeze in.

I would prefer the CSM kit to have a DP, 10 marines and 3 oblits, that at least hase the potential to be a formidable group, never was a fan of warp talon, helbrutes or a termi lord because they all lack viability without being paired with more like units

Of the current plastic range, I would be unsurprised to see a terminator lord, 5 terminators, 5 raptors and 3 bikers united in some kind of deep-striking/outflanking formation. If we were to consider entirely new plastics then anything goes because who knows what would be invented for a new codex.

OP, you got the the start collecting kits all wrong. There should be a heavy hitter I'm each box, not "a chaos squad and a raptor squad." Wtf kind of start collecting box is that? Every single one you posted except for possibly Dark Angels just falls short

My ideas for some of the Start Collecting boxes:
Blood Angels: Jump Pack Chaplain, Death Company, Furioso Dreadnought
Grey Knights: Terminator Librarian, Strike Squad, Nemesis Dreadknight
Dark Angels: Same as OP suggested
CSM: Terminator Lord, Chaos Marines, Helbrute
Eldar: Jetseer, Dire Avengers, Wraithlord

I have no idea what formations these would have, but I feel like they would fit the pattern of what has been included in the boxes so far. I recently got the Tau one, and it is awesome even if the special formation is not great (it will be fun for casual games, though!).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

My issue is there's not much money saving in a lot of what you're saying, and that's kind of the point of the Start Collecting! boxes. They are extraordinarily good deals, especially for GW. I mean the Undead AOS box straight up has an $80 model in it, and two more squads that MSRP at like $55 bucks together, for $85 bucks.

Your Chaos one there saves all of $9 bucks over individual retail, so it's just not worth it as a value box.

Typically, there's something large in the boxes like a tank or a Walker. The smallest "large" models in any start collecting box is the Thunderwolf Cavalry for the Space Wolves. Also every single one of them has an HQ unit, so you can use the box as it's own stand alone starter force.

So with that in mind, here's what I'd say for starter boxes:
Dark Angels: I just don't see a way to get one that's substantially different than the current Space Marines box without making it such a ludicrously good deal GW would never go for it. Best I came up with is essentially a reboxing of the Reclusiam Command Squad box which is already just $90 bucks. Ideally, I'd love a Land Raider and a box of Terminators and some random HQ, but I think that's too much of a pipe dream.

Blood Angels: I like the jump pack chaplain and Death Company. That'd fit. Make the last thing a Baal Predator and we're good.

Grey Knights: This is easy. Librarian, a Strike Squad, and a Nemesis Dreadknight.

Dark Eldar: Voidraven Bomber, Hellions and an Archon. I think it'd sell really well because like the Undead one, it's got an $80 model in an $85 box set, and GW is likely to go for it because GW'd love to dump their backstock of Hellions.

Eldar: Trade the Dire Avengers for a Fire Prism and you're there.

Chaos: Some theoretical new plastic Sorcerer model, some theoretical new stand-alone Thousand Sons kit, and a Rhino. A MAN CAN DREAM.
