So I'm trying to decide how to equip my plague monks. Do I go 2 attacks at 4+, 4+ rerolling misses or 2 attacks at 4+, 4+ with a 3rd attack at 4+ 5+?

What do you think?

Rerolls comes out at 0.75 wounds a turn, extra attack comes out at 0.67.

I think.

The pole arm thing (forgetting the name of the second weapon right now) gives 2" range though, potentially allowing more monks to get in on the attack. Monks die fast, though. It's a hard call. I went double foetide blades on my first 32, but if I pick up the start collecting, I'm thinking of doing the staffs for some diversity, and as a unit to "guard" the furnace.

I did a load of maths and the internet lost it for me.

Without going into the details again, the chance of zero hits is the same for two re-rolled attacks on 4+, as for three non-re-rolled attacks on 4+.

The average number of hits per round fighting is also the same for both options.

Having three attacks gives you the chance of getting three hits, but the chance of only one hit is higher than with the re-rolled attacks. If you are feeling lucky, the three attacks option is better.

There isn't much to choose between the two options and other factors, like weapon range, also need to be considered.

I didn't undertand what you mean by a third attack on 4+, 5+.

plague monks have 2 attacks at 4+ 4+ rerolling misses with 2 blades
or
2 attacks at 4+ 4+ with an additional 1 attack at 4+ 5+ if they go with a single blade and staff
the only difference between the 2 is the staff has a two inch range while the sword has one.

I'm going for the re-rolls. I'd prefer to roll my dice that way.

If monks come in big units it's worth thinking about whether the extra range of the staff will let you get more attacks in a round of combat, from a second rank of figures. This would offset the lower To Wound impact of the staff.

Two blades for me, WHFB 7E-8E taught us that rerolls are key. But more importantly, two blades looks better on those sculpts

Whichever one you like. The math is really close. Re-rolls is slightly better when all of your models are within 1", with the staff having a slight advantage when you have extra models within 2".

What command ability are you running? Something that gives +1 attack will net one attack with the blades AND one attack with the stave. However, absent that the blades are better, because on the charge they get an extra blade attack, meaning you are trading rerolls on 3 attacks for just one stave attack.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Hadn't thought of that but good point, as the Verminlord Corruptor has a command ability for that.

Okay then, if you charge with a large units of closely formed staff monks, and the Verminlord, you get 3 blade attacks plus 2 staff attacks plus 2 staff attacks for each second ranker, while the twin-blade unit gets 4 re-rollable blade attacks.
