So, I'm going to head into the expensive world of the Horus Heresy. I've already ordered my BaC boxed set and now I'm mixing and matching stuff from Forgeworld, preparing my big order from there. I'm not going hugely over board, as most of the stuff will come from the BaC box, but this is the 2000 pts list I've made. Some feedback and tips on what to change/improve would be great! Here goes:

HQ:
Legion Praetor - 100 pts
Cataphractii Terminator armour - 35 pts
Chainfist - 15 pts
Vigil Pattern Storm Shield - 10 pts
-160 pts-

ELITE:
Legion Terminator Squad - 175 pts
Cataphractii Terminator armour
Power Fists x5 - 25 pts
Vigil Pattern Storm Shields x4 - 40 pts
Iliastus Pattern Assault Cannon - 15 pts
-255 pts-
Spartan dedicated transport - 295 pts
Armoured Ceramite - 20 pts
Flare Shield - 25 pts
-340 pts-
-TOTAL - 595 pts-

Contemptor Dreadnought Talon - 175 pts
Multi-melta
CC weapon with inbuilt Meltagun - 15 pts
Drop Pod dedicated transport - 65 pts
-255 pts-

TROOPS:
Legion Tactical Squad - 150 pts
x10 Bolters
x10 Additional Combat blade - 20 pts
Rhino dedicated transport - 35 pts
-215 pts-

Legion Tactical Squad - 150 pts
x10 Bolters
x10 Additional Combat blade - 20 pts
Rhino dedicated transport - 35 pts
-215 pts-

Legion Tactical Support Squad - 100 pts
x5 Plasma Guns - 75 pts
Rhino dedicated transport - 35 pts
-210 pts-

HEAVY SUPPORT:
Legion Heavy Support Squad - 135 pts
x5 Heavy Bolters
-135 pts-

Legion Heavy Support Squad - 135 pts
x5 Lascannons - 100 pts
-235 pts-

TOTAL - 2000 pts

So, the list is pretty elite with the Centurion+Termie+Spartan deathstar taking up a huge chunk. I wouldn't go as far as to say that the Spartan is "mandatory", but I really want one. It's probably my favourite model FW has made ever, and I like the idea of it rampaging through the battlefield and then letting out the squad to punch stuff up.

I've given the tacticals CC weapons, so they can handle themselves in a brawl, but that also takes up 40 pts. Is this a good idea?

The Contemptor is something I've been thinking about. I want to bring it since I will have it by default (because of the BaC box), so not using it seems like a waste. Is melta considered a good option, or redundant with all the Armoured Ceramite going around?

Hit me up with some feedback!

Alpharius? Never heard of him.

The Terminators are fine but to be honest putting a spartan in there is just overkill by a mile and you are wasting most of its transport capacity by taking what i assume will be the termies and the preator for less than half its totalcapacity.
Let the cataphracti foot slog it to be honest or dont take them. Honestly i would drop the calth preator get alexis pollux and use his void commander rule to deep strike those non deepstrikable termies.
Also if you use tactical marines always use them in blocks of twenty, i would consider making pride of the legion your rite of war so you can have two units of veteran marines and your termies will be troops.
Dont uss the mm either its a trap, your contempter is going to die long before he gets to shoot anything with 12 range, give him the kheres and laugh while your enemies die tragically.
Also since your using fists remember you are bs5 with bolter weapons so stick two heavy bolters in those vet squads.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Two rhinos moving forward firing 2 heavy bolters at bs5 and take sniper as the veterans special rule and you will have rending on a 6.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The lascannon and bolter heavy squads are a good idea but i would go lascannon and misile launcher and maybe consider changing the plasma squad to an ordinary flamer squad.

Thanks! Since I'm Imperial Fists, can't I just buy the teleport upgrade for 10 pts for the termies instead of Polux? Polux is cool though, but could he join the termies and deep strike with them? If so, that could be a nice thing to get behind enemy lines, and with their shields they might survive to charge next turn.

Problem with tacs is that I'm only getting one Calth box, so I will have 30 marines, 10 of which I was now thinking to use for the heavy support squads (with the upcoming underslung heavy weapons from Forgeworld, to save some money). So 20 tacs is all I got, so I could use them as vets instead, with the Rite of War that allows it and put them in the Rhinos with 2 heavy bolters each.

I also like the Sicaran quite a bit, and if I'm deepstriking the termies I could take one if those instead of the Spartan (which I realize is overkill... but it's sooo coool!).

I'm going to make another list with your tips and then post it here. Thank you!

Okay, how about this:

HQ:
Alexis Polux
Rite of War: Pride of the Legion
-165 pts-
Master of Signal
-95 pts-

ELITE:
Contemptor Dreadnought
Kheres pattern assault cannon
-195 pts-

3 Rapier support teams
Quad heavy bolters
-120 pts-

TROOPS:
10 Veteran Space Marines
Sniper
2 Heavy Bolters with suspensor webs
Legion Vexilla
Rhino dedicated transport
-250 pts-

10 Veteran Space Marines
Sniper
2 Heavy Bolters with suspensor webs
Legion Vexilla
Rhino dedicated transport
-250 pts-

Terminator squad
4 Terminators, 1 sergeant
Sergeant + 4 of the Terminators have Vigil Pattern Storm Shields
1 Iliastus pattern Assault cannon
All of them have Chainfists
-290 pts-

HEAVY SUPPORT:
Sicaran Battle Tank
Armoured Ceramite
Heavy bolter sponsons
-175 pts-

Heavy support squad
Misslile launchers
-160 pts-

Heavy support squad
Lascannons
-235 pts-

2000 pts total

So my plan here would be joining Polux with the termies and deep striking them behind enemy lines, and then just punching stuff to death. Long range support from the heavy support squads, rapier batteries with the Master of Signal hanging out with them, giving whichever squad BS5 that needs it the most that turn, or bombing something if not. The Sicaran can roam around, shooting stuff that needs to die. The veterans will take objectives and with the vexilla they will be good at holding them, with stubborn and rerolling morale checks.

How about this? I like this list quite a lot!

While I have very little list building experience but if you want more deepstriking goodness, have you considered the new IF hammerfell rite of war?

Rite of War: Hammerfell Strike Force
Teleport Array: Any infantry unit can buy Teleportation Transponders at 15pts and ICs can do so at 10pts.
Landing Force: Phalanx Warder Squads are troops.
Blinding Luminescence: Everything that deep strikes get shrouded the turn they arrive and every enemy within 12" and line takes a blind test.
Vehicles must start in reserve.
No allies or Fortifications.

In my opinion, lascannon heavy support squads are greatly over priced for what they bring. Maybe upgrade the rapiers to laser destroyers?

Seems interesting, definetely, but I don't want to build a list that relies too much on deep strike. Seems risky, but cool indeed.

Thing is, the heavy support guys get tank hunter which I think could wreck, and the rapiers don't. Also, the quad heavy bolters fire 6 shots each, that's 18 str5 shots at BS5. that will kill a lot, even if it's just AP4. Fluffy as well, I want more heavy bolters. But yes, the lascannon heavy support teams are very expensive, that is true.

That is true, but since laser destroyers have ordnance its the equivalent to tank hunter (I think).

Comparing the two:
Heavy Support Squad
Without additional upgrades, you are paying ~47 points for a S9 AP2 shot, on a T4 3+ save model.

Laser Destroyer
You are paying 55 points for a S9 AP1 twinlinked shot, on a T7 3+ model; but a bit shorter range. (things get a bit weird with artillery so there is more to this)

Sorry for trying to shove laser destroyers down your throat. >_< It's just I think they are too good not to have.

Nono, don't apologize! I'm asking for advice here, just happy I'm getting it :-D

I've been thinking, and a Medusa would solve a lot of my problems. I could switch the missile squad for a medusa (actually cheaper points wise) and keep the lascannon squad (cus I want to darn it!).

I had to remove a rapier though, since I figured out that Polux can't deep strike himself, so I need a Praetor with teleport equipment (as well as for the squad itself) so I needed points.

I will keep tweaking though, might ditch the heavy support squad. Twin linked is very good as well with the destroyers, and T7 is very nice, so you definately have a points.

Before I give any real advice I gotta ask this first. What sort of Imperial Fists are you looking to play? Strong defensive Fists, Seige Style Fists or Go-Go-bolter Gunline Fists

(Choppy-shooty Boarding fists are awesome too)
