This Friday, my friends and I are getting together to play a four-way Apocalypse game with 8,000 points to each side!

That's 32,000 points on the table. Lists are being made, and won't be finalized until we all deploy our troops.

On one side, there's me with Necrons and Tau at approximately 4,000 points each.

On the opposite side, there's the military history buff friend with Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Adeptus Mechanicus and one Imperial Knight for variety.

Also present will be a newcomer to the game borrowing some Tyranids and a small Ork force.

Finally, to make things interesting, a veteran Warhammer player of over fifteen years is joining with 8,000 points of Chaos Daemons and Chaos Space Marines.

It will be played on a 2 meter (6.5 feet) by 2 meter arena.

It will be documented from deployment and every move afterward. If you are interested in a battle report, let me know.

Yes battle report please! Play by play photos and write up preferably but video summary of each turn is great as well!

This is the first time I do a battle report. I'll make a simplified play by play report, and photos of the best moments of the game.

Example:

* A skirmish between Tau Fire Warriors and Cadian Infantry ended up costing both units dearly, but the Cadians managed to push the Tau back due to sheer numbers.
* Daemon Prince approached the Necrons from the flank, biding his time as they focused on the more pressing Tyranid threat.
* The skirmish locking up the central plaza was interrupted when a well placed shot from the Baneblade brought down the structure, crushing the warriors beneath the debris.

So no dice rolls, no details about how far they moved etc unless it's a really impressive thing.

Yeah that sounds good, but I need this battle report! Sounds like a great game.

Sounds awesome ...but a 4-way? ...Ugh that's going to take forever haha. The waiting around factor can really kill a game. At least with one big team versus another big team half the table is moving/shooting/etc at one time. How will you manage the turn order with 4 teams?

I'd recommend taking pictures before and after EVERY turn, and spot photos of certain conflicts and cool looking fights... it makes putting together the narrative after much easier.

Anyway, I'd definitely like to see your results! Happy gaming!

I know it is unconventional, but that's what makes it so much fun. And the veteran friend told me that by the end of everyone's first turn we would probably have far smaller armies.

Unconventional is cool and not a problem ...I'm just thinking time management. My last 24,000pt Apoc game took 11 hours and we are well practiced and moving fast (just 2 teams). We had scheduled breaks for lunch and dinner.

The points are not so much an issue as the 4 teams. Lots of stuff dies on turn 1 yes, and if you use the Environmental Conditions from the Apoc Book stuff will die even faster... but you're still in for long periods of waiting with 4 teams. I am still wondering how you manage the turn order?

Anyway, if you have a full weekend and lots of beer haha...

Awesome I wish I could be playing too. Be sure to take lots of pictures and make an awesome battle report with it. It's been a long time since I got to read a good battle report (pretty much since Jy2 stopped writing them)...

Erm, that board seems very small for so many points.
I'd recommend at least 12x6 ft.

Lol, RIP.Might want to get a newcomer to not play apoc, or at least an army that can really hold their ground well.

Which is why we agreed to give him a handicap: He can bring back all defeated units once, effectively doubling his army number and giving him greater staying power. It happens at the start of his turn, and he redeploys his defeated forces.

It would help, when his army is smaller than the other armies on the table and so is his experience in the game.

I'm still waiting to hear how you guys will do the turn order?

And are there narrative plans for any uneasy alliances, like teaming up on one team at a time and such?

We will roll the dice to see who goes first. If there's a tie the two who tied roll to resolve which of them goes first.

Narrative wise, I haven't really thought of anything. Any suggestions?

Narrative wise, and every other way wise - we always team up on Eldar haha... the "team up" in 3-way and 4-way games, in my opinion, can be pretty unfun for the guy on the receiving end but with Apoc usually everyone understands that lots of stuff is going to die.

For your turns, are you doing that roll off each game turn or just once at the beginning and sticking with the same order throughout the game?

lol I play Eldar and would gladly do a 3v1team up as long as I am going first. I can kill a handful of superheavys on my first turn so It will be fine by me. I can put out something like 27 S: D shots that have 36"+ range in one turn

I think it will be on a turn by turn basis.
