If this is where Ninth is to reside, might as well get the ball rolling shall we!

For those who don't know, Ninth Age is a community driven project which is the continuation of WHFB 8th edition with emphasis on balanced and competitive play in the same style as 8th, except, you know...balanced. I would recommend it to people who enjoyed WHFB and believe AoS doesn't *quite* (understatement of the year) live up to block on block combat you want but KoW doesn't quite have the same level of flavor or complexity that Warhammer had.

Just wanting to find if there is much of a community here for Ninth Age discussion, so just a few questions.

Do you know about or play Ninth Age? My gaming group picked it up right away since it's inception, we've been playing it regularly for at least 2 months.
How did you find out about it? A friend of mine who was hell'a upset about AoS asked us all to try it
What army do you play? Do you like the Ninth Age representation for them? I play Sylvan Elves and Orcs and Goblins, I really like how Sylvan Elves play, relying much less on avoidance. Orcs and Goblins still feel like there missing some close combat punch, but they've got the 'Goblin' part of Orcs and Goblins perfect.
Is there anything specific you like or dislike about Ninth? I like the new magic system and the fact that our feedback and ideas help shape Ninth Age but I dislike that illogical chaffing still exists and sometimes the vein of communication between the players and the content team seems narrow.

Honestly I heard of 9th Age through youtubers such as Chihammer (One of my fave channels and fave armies) and I'm tempted to see whether I can get our local group, if they still have the models, to try it out! But I used to be an Empire player in 8th Age and now with 9th Age, I'm quite tempted to run an Orc and Goblins Army instead (Cause they're awesome) or something else entirely! I just would like a cool project, so maybe also dwarves too? I would say I like the Empire changes, and I love how they've treated witch hunters! (Shame GW are getting rid of the Militia kit cause their rules are cool)!

I've been holding of while the rules were in a constant state of flux, but I understand this will end soon with the release version 1.0?
I've seen a couple of you tube videos and I like what I see so far. Still feels like WHFB but with a lot of the rough edges ironed out.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Eventually i will get around to trying it out but I'm not sure if i'll like it as i hate the idea of random magic dice(though managed tol enjoy the psychic phase in 40k though), i never had a chance to hate 8th for it though as i only got back into the hobby last year and didn't have my stuff with me so only play some regiments of renown stuff before aos.

Do you know about or play Ninth Age?

Heard about it on Dakka, but don't play it.

What army do you play?
I've got Orc and Goblin, Undead and Dwarf armies fully painted, a half painted WoC army and armies in progress for Elves and Skaven. Could also proxy historical figures for brets.
Is there anything specific you like or dislike about Ninth?
I like that they're going out of their way to ensure that every faction gets covered.
I dislike the fact that the rules are still somewhat focused on individual models and oodles of special rules per unit rather than a simple core with some minor tweaks and adjustments. It really feels like a game for 8th edition veterans only and looks like it would be hard to get into if you don't have 8th edition experience due to being overly complicated.

That's probably the biggest gripe people have had, it is a very complicated game. The content team has addressed that and along with the newest 1.0 update soon after there will be a much slimed down version of Ninth coming out with the intention to ease new people into the complexities of the game. Not exactly sure what they'll slim down but it's a good idea none the less.

Chihammer is also one of my favourite Youtubers and he was the deciding factor in me picking up my old Orcs and Goblins over my Sylvan Elves. I've even made my own 'Chickenhead' and he's been doing amazing. Heavy Armour, mounted, Dragonhelm, Seed of rebirth and Beastbane Helbeard. My last game he god a side charge into a unit of 6 Treekin and ground them down over 3 turns.

I've only played one or two practice games myself to help teach myself the rules and so far I really enjoy it. It has cleaned up a lot of what I was hoping a 9th edition of WFB would have done.

That's right. In 2 weeks or so 1.0 will be released and it's going to stay for a while.
