Subject: Supergluing miniature to a stand temporarily

After watching a bunch of Duncan Rhodes' vids on WarhammerTV, I've noticed that he talks about using superglue to stick parts of models to something so he can paint them separately from the other parts. He then talks about breaking the parts off of the stand he superglued them to. "They snap right off!" Does this really work?
So basically just use superglue to attach a part to a base or something else and then just crack it off when it's done?
The reason I'm asking is that I've started magnetizing my miniatures and the bases and one in particular is on one foot and is kind of wobbly when I tip it around to paint it. It' like to try to temporarily attach it to something firm and then be able to easily remove it unscathed. I'm also getting a multi part model soon that I want to paint an entire part separately once it's assembled and then attach it to the main part of the model once it's done.
Any advice on this? I'm afraid to try it! LOL

Yes, it really works. Superglue does not like being moved around a lot, and it is easy to make a "weak join"

Yes, it works.
Especially if you only "tack" it down with a couple of small spots of glue (and don't let it spread).

Good idea, trying it now! ...thanks!
I typically just use blue- tac but sometimes it's a pain to get off. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok word of warning... I literally just did this: Wait for the darn glue to dry before trying to paint, I just wrecked a nice WN-S7 brush.
I'm sure you're all smarter than me but yeah, be careful haha.

yeah i do this all the time. usually to the base it came on or a spare 25mm, with only 1 point of contact.(1 foot) it makes it easier to paint than blu tacking it to a paint pot, which is what i used to do. once the painting is complete, i'll varnish the model, then free the glued foot using a small disposable scalpel or stanley blade.

Yeah you can do it. A couple of times I have been caught out that I accidentally made the join too good and couldn't easily break it free, or the glue seeped out too much so when I broke the part off it damaged some of the paintwork.

The best thing to do is glue the pieces at the point it'll join to the mini, such as the neck join if its a head or the shoulder join. This way, any of the above described "seepage" of superglue matters little because you can't see the bit that's wrecked anyway.

This is the reason I have separate work and paint benches. I never paint within 24 hours of glueing. Luckily I learned my lesson by screwing up cheap brushes.
