So, Destroyers. How does one get them into that 12" killing range?

I took a 10 man unit of jump pack Destroyers into battle, accompanied by a Moritat with AA, RF and volkite/plasma pistols. They skirted along the side of the battlefield behind cover, and the turn they popped out, they were destroyed. Is there any way to make them any more survivable than a standard Legionary?

I have no input, but would totally also love to know the answer. I like the idea of Gunslinger Marines dropping in and shooting people left and right.

Instead of Jump Packs you can bring a Drop Pod along and put them in there. Or, my favorite, have a Storm Eagle march up mid field and drop 2 squads of Destroyers on the enemy

War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts

How do they work hopping out of a rhino? I was thinking of putting some together, but lack spare jump packs.

It seems that if you attach a Moriat to them, they can’t charge if he does his gunslinger thing, so the no assault after disembarking thing isn’t a huge deal. Next turn he can’t shoot, but the rest of the squad can, and then pile in to assault.

Rhinos could work, but it might get killed doing so, it's a hit-or-miss thing imho

I thought the moritat couldn't be attached to squads and had to go alone?

Destroyers are the only squad he can join, because they're his kind of guys.

If you take Jump Packs, you can always DS them with a Nuncio Vox or Command Rhino for no scatter. What Legion do you play? Also, are you giving them The Missile Launchers? Because those are great, and can be fired while hiding in terrain while you wait for the perfect moment to strike.

Ultramarines.
I'll be taking them with the missiles, but I wouldn't take a Damocles Command Rhino. I would be taking a Master of Signals though.

Plenty of ways to get a nuncio vox, though I'm surprised your not taking a Damocles with your MoS, as it is one of the benefits of playing Ultras. Still, either infiltrating Recons with a Vox, or simply getting your tacticals up the field, would go a long way to letting you get them in range when they drop.

Np, is that a chapter thing or a rite of war? Just curious.

Of course, Recon Squads! I've actually forgotten all about Deep Striking, I'll bear this in mind. Cheers!

People always seem to forget that they can take a Nuncio Vox and Go To Ground in ruins for 2+ cover to survive turn 1; makes the DSing strats a TON easier to pull off .

you have a few options:

Best: jump packs! so you have a 12" move, and if you put a moritat with them, they gain scout. 12" scout move, 12" move turn 1, BOOM! ML is in range
second best: Deep strike them. they have jump packs, they can do this
Mediocre: Drop pods. Becuase of the exclusive nature of drop pods this one is iffy.
Worst: Rhino. It's all fun and games till it dies like the tin-foil car it is, then you have to foot slog it elsewhere.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
