Forgeworld are discontinuing all of their legion dreads right now and they're all sold out already. I thought I'd get a black legion dread before it's gone, but I noticed they don't have it anymore. Anybody know what's up with that?

From time to time, FW discontinues old, poor selling models to "make room for new stuff." This happened awhile back with a bunch of IG vehicles, but with no warning. Your best bet now is ebay. Or, just get a Contemptor.

Forgeworld very recently (as in the last couple of days recently) put up a "Last chance to buy" section on their site, much like the one on the main GW site. All the CSM dreads were on it.

I'm referring to a previous "cleansing" about a yeat or two back. No warning, many models just vanished one day. It's nice they give warnings now. Strange thing is, in some instances, FW continues to write new rules and include the discontinued units in new army lists. *cough* LRBT Conqueror.

They write new rules for the models so that the people who did buy them can still use them. Its like a loyalty bonus or whatever you want to call it for buying their less than popular models.

I really wish FW would stop doing this. They put up this last chance to buy with absolutely no warning. The last time something like this happened I attempted to purchase a salamander scout tank. It was literally in my shopping basket, went to checkout & then was told it was out of stock. Contacted them over the phone & they refused to allow me to purchase it. I was not happy.

If they are going to discontinue stuff, they should give the community a few weeks warning & not just discontinue products at a moments notice.

That was what made me post this. The black legion dread was not in the last chance buy event. It wasn't in the normal dread list either. Which made me scratch my head. I don't remember them discontinuing that dread in particular.
I was gonna get the the csm crew along with it, but with just the crew being interesting...meh.

FW does this a lot.
There is a pretty big list of discontinued FW stuff: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/659902.page
They normally discontinue stuff because it isn't selling well.

If it's gone out of stock, that means they don't have any more. And if they don't have any more, and they're discontinuing the model, that mean that the soft molds have reached the end of their life and they're looking at the cost of making new molds with how many models they're expecting to sold. If there's no stock, and no mold, there's no way for them to get you a model.

I still don't understand why it would be out of the question for FW to notify the community that certain models will be discontinued & give them an opportunity to buy them. At present, they just say:

"Last Chance to Buy!"

Randomly....with no warning & if you aren't sitting on their website the moment it happens you are out of luck. Recasters, resellers, private collectors buy them up in seconds. It has been this way for years. So why couldn't they do a last chance to buy "over 2-3 weeks" then discontinue the models?

I had the exact same experience this weekend as I did previously. I was wayyy ahead of everyone, even the news sites. I went to purchase Ork Kannon for Squiggoth. Was in my inventory. Went to check out. Then it was out of stock when I went to pay. I even received an email from them saying "Don't forget your items!" Proof:

So now FW, has 2 models both the big/gargantuan squiggoth that have equipment that are discontinued. I understand that FW likely makes (x) number of a model then discontinues it or gets rid of the mold or whatever. But why then, do they only inform the community that something is being discontinued when there is only like 10 left in stock. Why can't they do a "Last Chance to Buy" when there is 500-1000 in stock allowing players who want the model an opportunity to purchase it before it goes the way of the dodo.

Oh wow. I never though it could be that bad XD. It really is dissapointing though. There have been quite some kits that I missed in the past like that too.
Especially their terrain. Such awesome pieces, but I never got around to buying them and when I eventually get around to it...they're long gone.

There is a way-back-when link in that thread that Iron_Captain posted....mmmh, so many nice pieces. Even now though...there are a few kits that I want to buy, but I'm not at all in a hurry to get them. I just wait until some Christmas or so comes around. Took me years to finally get their khorne berserker kit. They turned out to be even cooler once I actually had some models assembled using those pieces. So I figured I'd get some more, but nope...discontinued and I didn't even know it.

And I totally agree. I actually prefer them to the contemptors because I think they look more unique. I still like the contemptors, but they are much closer to a generic mech design than the boxy dreadnoughts. Which also serves that relic of a bygone age shtick more imho.

I am not surprised to see the end of the legion specific dreads, except the sonic dreadnought. Why release IA13 about 2 years ago with specific rules for sonic weapons on dreads and then discontinue the models? IIRC there were rules in there for Nurgle dreads too?

I wanted a sonic dread, although tbf I deeply disliked the sculpt and that had put me off, but now I guess I'll never have one, unless anyone can think of a decent conversion from a plastic SM one.

Those dreads have been around for a while no? Wouldn't even be surprised if the molds aren't holding up too well at this point. But yes, the lack of sonic dreads does indeed seem like a weird move. Unless they plan on replacing them soon?

With the Kakophoni Marines for 30k, it would not surprise me that they have a new sonic dread planned in the future as the traitor legions chaosify more.

Probably because they never have anywhere near that many in stock in the first place, and the decision as to make a new mold or not comes when it's time to replace the existing one. So 'stock' is whatever they have on hand, because they can't really do a big run of new models on a worn out mold.

Hmm, good point. That would be awesome if true. I don't care how weak csm are, if they keep pumping out stuff like the word bearer units I'm so gonna keep playing csm lol.
