Because they are no longer available.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

they hiked the price years ago for codexes when they went to hardback then they move back to soft in a while then in a couple of years they'll hike the price again for a switch to hardback.

KFC did that to me when they hiked the price of hot wings then kept the price but dropped to 2 wings per serving instead of 3.

It's the Mars Bar problem.
Bars get bigger and the price gradually shifts a bit. Then they get smaller again, and no-one notices.

But, GW are a sod for stopping stock before the replacement is ready.

Those are Oz dollars. There's a difference from 'normal' US dollars, and is why people in Australia (rightfully) complain so much.
It works out as £45 or so.

I know it does. I consider that a hell of a lot to pay for a pretty slim book. Poor Aussies. :(

Hey man, I feel your pain! When the Ork codex went out of stock in March, I panicked, and was about to flip tables when someone said that it would be replaced with a softback.

So they will likely be replaced with softbacks. Don't panic.

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

As has been said, don't freak out about it. They're not discontinuing the armies.
