Hey guys, Long-time Dakka-lurker here,

So I'm having some fun making a list for my Raptors Legion (way cooler than Raven Guard by the way).
And just for fun, I've got to use Lias Issodon (175pts)
He's got some really cool Special Abilities, but the one's I really care about is the fact he as a character has Shrouding, and he automatically gets Master of Ambush as a Warlord Trait.

So I have a few questions for you guys....
What is the nastiest combo you can come up with utilizing Lias' shrouding to the unit he's in + infiltrate to any 3 units (possibly including his own)?

Hmm I am not super familiar with the raptors legion and what you have options for.. so i am going to give some strategy tips, which you can probably fill units in for.

1) Infiltrate to setup an offensive turn 1 strike. So any very nasty shooty unit. (grav centurians come to my mind, but again i don't know what raptors have)

2) Infiltrate to setup an effective turn 2 charge. So this may be more of what your looking for.. your essentially forward deploying some really good assault units that can benefit from shrouding to tank, but more importantly, are in a good position to charge their targets on turn 2.

I realize this is not super helpful in giving you "use unit X" but hopefully it gets the gears rolling. =)

Cheers!

Infiltrate him with a Centurion retinue.

For all intensive purposes...... they are Ravenguard.... just have some nifty characters.

Also: as for what models I have.... it's really quite endless....

I was thinking centurions as well. Damage output is always ludicrous and would help with majority toughness if I threw a librarian in there as well.
Just remember that Lias is on foot, which kinda hinders putting him in a "superfriends" kind of bike squad.

Some ideas I had could be....

Combat Units -----------------
Skitarii - Putting Lias in a squad of Ruststalkers
GreyKnights - really anything (but I mostly am looking at you terminators + Draigo ) Having Draigo with them would be fairly annoying with Deepstrike shenanigans + Shroud.... ouch
Marines - standard Honour Guard / Vanguar Vets?

Shooty Units ---------------
Skitarii - a plethora of Vanguard (plasma plasma plasma) Can I even do that? I don't think so
Marines - Centurions (obvious choice as well)
Marines - Sternguard
Admech - Breachers / Destroyers (is that their name?) Can I even do that? I don't think so
Marines - GravCannon Dev Squad? (park them on an objective + chill)

.... I can't think of anything else really. Brain fart.

Also, their Bolters can become heavy 1 rending if they stand still.

I infiltrate three full Tactical squads with Grav-Cannon, Grav Gun & Combi Grav on the sarges. Between infiltrate and scout, they can fire off the Grav without having to move those models, whilst also moving the bolter models into rapid fire if you want to get up close. Most of the time though, I just stay at 18 range and use the bolters in their sniper mode to assist the grav.

Of course, if you want to go full on, then Grav Centurions would be the go to.

Yeah, I've seem a couple lists with that tactic in mind, quite solid indeed.

However, it makes the list very immobile if I happen to roll poorly.
Gotta have some mobility I think.

If something has the infiltrate ability, its also means they have the ability to outflank, now think about bringing in three land raiders loaded with termies in....

Grav-cents are the most obvious Issodon abuse.

stenguard the most fluffy one.

Well, I've played Raptors with Lias Issodon for quite some time now. Here's my top three non-vehicle units that could be infiltrated with Master of Ambush and be a pain in the ass:

1- Grav Centurions. Hard to do better than those!
2- 10 man Grey Knights Purifiers with incinerators. Good-bye horde armies! Will even hold their own in melee if needed.
3- Kataphron Destroyers. Let the haywire rains!

Thunderwolf cavalry could also sneak in there for a turn 2 charge threat though if truth be told, they should be able to assault turn 2 no matter what, so...

Praise the emperor, bless your weapon and pass the ammo!

In my army I tend to infiltrate first my Sternguard (to whom Issodon is attached, as well as a Librarian), so that's a really solid, offensive unit to begin with. Then it's Tactical squads, if for no other reason than to deploy them reactively. The Infiltrate rule means that they can take their Rhino with them, so long as they don't begin the game embarked. Finally, if I can find space, I'll sometimes hide an Assault Squad somewhere, although that's not always a very good choice; they should really avoid committing to an engagement until Turn 3.

This. One of my friends, before he went back to regular Raven Guard for their Gladius formations, used this to great effect.

It's not quite Invisible Centurions, but 2+ cover and 2+ armour is tough to remove for most armies.

Remember that the Raptor's tactics confer scouts to non-bulky units, so you'll ideally want to Infiltrate bulky units, since the Infantry units can just Scout in their transports to get into position, or Outflank if you're looking to null deploy.

Also, be wary of planning to infiltrate things like Grav-cannon toting guys. You only go first half the time. The other half, they'll get charged before they shoot.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Nothing really paints Sternguard as being any more fluffy.
Plus it is easier just to Drop Pod them.

For the raptors it is fluffy. They are big into sternguard.

It's hard to beat centurions but let's try outside the codex.

Unfortunately Master of Ambush only affects non-vehicle units, so a Household Detachment of Imperial Knights is out, as are Land Raiders.

Cult Mehcanicus Elimination Maniple. I'm considering this myself. Two Cohort Cybernetica formations. Three Kataphron Breachers in a Combined Arms detachment might be good too. Three units of those big Kastelans could also wreck.

Skitarii Vanguard would be cheaper than grav cents but not nearly as resilient.

A Fearless Imperial Guard blob or three could deny half the board.

If Xenos generals can play with Coteaz why not Lias? Two allied spots and board wraithknights and an Avatar. Three bloodthirsters or carnifexes or Necron wraiths. Corpsethief Claw formation or two.nevermind

Only Battle Brothers can use the Warlord's trait.
