*hoping this is OK here since it's about rumors but if it needs to be moved, my apologies and happy to do whatever the mods wish Enjoy!

Episode 140 Combat Phase Podcast w/Natfka of Faeit212 site on rumor culture, history and workings of his site and rumor scene, and what's to come...

http://traffic.libsyn.com/combatphase/ep_140_rumor_culture_natfka.mp3

We talk news, hobby, games played. Kenny briefly recaps his AoS tournament experience from the Fantasia Fanatic in Sweden this weekend. Opponent/winner does a 10 minute interview. Then...time for the main event!

Rumor culture and news in wargaming is a part of the package. The rumor master himself, Natfka, of the Faeit212 site joins us for a long but fascinating interview about the origins of, workings of his news and rumors site...and what we have to look forward to in the coming days

Does he address the reasons why you get more reliable rumors from a drunk chimpanzee using a Ouija board?

Also, since you posted the exact same thing on here and on Heresy 30k in quick succession, I'm waiting with bated breath to see it pop up on Warseer and a few other forums.

Hmm, I guess quantity is a quality in and of itself in some way but...

Natfka on Faeit 212 - Total rumors: (389 TRUE) / (832 FALSE) / (76 PARTIALLY TRUE/VAGUE) - Updated 3/2/2016

I guess "rumor master" might be supposed to be taken as sarcasm?

That's funny. He actually addresses exactly this in the interview. I won't spoil it for you.

Of course you won't. Your interview would get less clicks if you did.

In order to spare people from listening to it, I'll take a stab at his whinge annoyance of the rumour tracker. I have a suspicion that it follows on from his previous comments:

- He doesn't make the rumours, he just passes them on
- It's unfair he gets branded when these "unknown sources" should be the ones marked down
- Dakka is grossly unfair in allowing the tracker to continue and dragging his good name through the mud

Blah Blah Blah

Then perhaps he ought to track his various sources, and start weeding out the ones that are crap, or at least assigning reliability ratings to his sources and including those ratings with each rumor.

But, no, it's easier to whine and post click-bait wild speculation labeled as "rumors".

Ah, but you see, there in lies a problem. People may start tracking down and going direct to those more reliable sources. If that happened, then the question becomes: what's the point of the middle man?

This is interesting feedback since he brought up the Dakka tracker and how that works. Never know about that tool.
But I won't speak for him. If you care or have interest have a listen starts around 40 minutes I believe.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Yep, people have a vague, car-crash like interest in how Naffy will deploy his army of trained goalpost movers this time around, but not enough to slog through some random podcast. Call me when you get Hastings or Harry on.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

I slogged through it. No idea why beyond insomnia. It's a very meandering podcast, jumping from point to point and back again like a wandering conversation. If you like that then you might enjoy it. I prefer a stronger helmsman.

First off the interview starts at around 42 minutes. However rumour accuracy is not addressed until 1 hour and 40 minutes. A variety of other topics are covered in-between, from site inspiration and management, nature of sources, typos etc etc.

From 1.40 to 1.45 rumour accuracy is covered. Dakka isn't mentioned by name. As was guessed, it's all about how Natfka is a rumour reporter and not the source, so any tracker is itself inaccurate when covering his work. There's a personal vendetta against him particularly by an individual who stays 45 minutes away. He holds Hastings up as someone to be admires for being essentially 100% accurate and who rises above the drama.

That's about it. The interview does continue on but the content and style isn't really for me. Maybe someone else got further.

He brings up a very good point about how we are all going to Faeit 212 for the community in spite of the rumor source vitriol.

The real value of the podcast is how a passionate tabletop gamer started a blog and how it grew into site with over 100K hits per day.

I enjoyed the interview and Combat Phase is quickly becoming one of my favorite podcasts.

By posting acres of steaming clickbait and then kicking off drama whenever anyone called him out on it.

Hardly. He follows the BoLS model of either making gak up or taking a rumour from an actual reliable person (Atia/Hastings/Harry/Lords of Wargaming/etc) and embellishing it hoping to draw traffic.

As for the community angle, well, you could say that he brings us all together in a spirit of mockery and ridicule as we seek to quickly deflate his attempts at rumours. The only time any of his rumours appear on this site is when an overexcited poster forgets to check the source or is unaware of Natfka's ability to predict rumours has a less than chance probability of being true. The thread escalates until Sad Panda or someone similar comes along, laughs, contradicts them and the thread is rapidly closed.

His latest Sisters of Battle at Christmas 2016-post is showing all that's wrong

- lack of source reliability tracking
- lack of source filtering in case it provided false info before
- common sense & experience with rumors, GW managers know nothing
- Aly Morrison, head (or high ranked personal) of GW's miniature production team, openly said no more SOB miniatures two years ago already

- posting it anway (for clicks obviously)

It doesnt help anyone except for generating him profit from advertisment.

We are? I'll have to have a good stern talk with myself for not keeping me informed that I'm going to this "community". I hate it when I'm doing things like that without my own knowledge.

Oh man. Nice

I've addressed this with him multiple times. It usually gets my comments deleted.

For the record, I don't have anything against Natfka. I don't like the style of his site, but that's something different.

How dare you hold these people to account! They who peddle in falsehoods and untruths! Curse you!

Bloke has a serious problem if he feels that the rumour tracker is some sort of elaborate attempt to undermine him in some nefarious way. I think, beyond tracking the rubbish he spouts, ignoring his comments and attempts at drawing you into his arguments will both reduce your own stress and most likely wind him up.

"How dare this person with a vendetta against me completely ignore me and my attempts at protest! I am more important than that! PAY ME ATTENTION, I DEMAND IT!"
