Does anybody use these? I think they look really cool and I want to try them out but I'm confused as to their optimal function. Also how could I justify them Fluffwise for my world eaters?

My DG friend has a lone lascannon tarantula to fill his empty FA slot. It is very cheap and, in a game where MSU is at a premium, few units want to devote a whole round of shooting at it. However, if ignored, a lone cheap lascannon can be quite helpful - it only really needs to kill a terminator to make its points back.

Perhaps your commander is sick of all his heavy support rushing forward to beat face and as such simply gave them all chain axes and devoted the heavy weapons to being welded onto platforms that had no desire to rush into close combat?
Regardless, "I think they look reall cool" should be a sufficient reason to use them anyway.

I've got a hyperios air defence battery for my Alphas. Hardly anything in Fast Attack and they're cheap and I have them sat around, so tend to add them in. They do alright and tend to make the lightning think twice before flying into their range.

You don't particularly need to justify including tarantulas in your WE army. It's a piece of legion equipment. Of course they had it. If a commander could use some cheap air-dropped turrets for area denial so he could save troops and tanks for more active assault then he wouldn't hesitate.

I use them allmost every time in my Mechanicum. Quadgun-tarantulas as AA and sometimes a bunch of photon-thruster-tarantulas or lascannon-tarantulas with some battlesmith-guys and an Occularis to watch them. They are not bad, realy.
